YO GEORGIANS! :)

In a tragic incident, we had a coop fire last week. We lost all our chickens, which were abut 5 weeks old. My daughter was particularly attached to her spitzhaben. We drove to a feed store and bought a new group. We managed to create a distraction so the kids are not so freaked out but my daughter is heartbroken and really wants a spitzhaben like the one she had. We can't find one that is under 3 weeks old. I Googled and could not find one that I could get anytime soon. We live in Atlanta and would drive anywhere within a few hours of here or pay extra to get a day old shipped. We just need 1 but would be glad to pay to have 5 shipped, if there is a minimum order, and just find homes for the others. We are trying to get one this week.

I know someone with spitzahubens. They live about 30 or 45 minutes away from Atlanta.

now my chicken coop we are building next weekend. This is the side of my house/backyard I do not let hte kids play because it's out of site so it's really unused and wasted space. Hubby suggested I use that area to put the coop/run. If I do this it will save me tons of money because 3 sides are already enclosed. the open end I could put the coop there and an access door. then run the hose from the front yard over there since there isn't a hose pipe in the back at all.

so is this area chicken heaven?

we will cut down the brush in this bottom right, i can't move the tree. and i'd have to figure out how to cover the top but...we could look in from our sunroom as well as the kids bedrooms
I have a very simialar area for my guys and it works out perfectly. We used one of the tarp carports for cover for the run, cheap and it works.

hows everyone tonight?
Tired. We've had renters for the past two days. But they are leaving tomorrow. I just got my hatching eggs from Tenn. today! Yea! (Wheaten Ameraucanas and some other Super Blue Egg Layers - mixes) The ones from FL (Salmon Favorelles) should come tomorrow. Hope to set eggs on Wednesday. Had another hen go broody so I put 8 of my neighbors eggs under her yesterday. I will fill up any open spaces in the bator with my friends eggs. We have a lady who sells chicks that will sell them for us! This will probably be my last hatch for this year.

I think what we are going to do is just close off the one side witht he coop and a gate and maybe not even cover it with chicken wire...but have the coop nice and predator proof. by doing this they will have more room and i won't have spent 800 bucks lol.
