YO GEORGIANS! :)

Just sold 15 chicks! Sold 2 dozen eggs (plus more tomorrow) and put 40 eggs in the incubator. Oh, and got 24 chicken and 1 duck eggs today! Yay!

Wow - you are getting 24 eggs this time of year - how many layers do you have now? My girls are in their winter downtime - i'm only getting 3 to 5 eggs a day from my dozen birds. Hoping for them to kick back up after this cold spell finishes up next week.

Hello everyone on the Georgia thread!
I'm brand new to this website, and I came here hoping for some guidance. I have a 9-acre pond a a very lonely male Rouen living on it. He looks so lonely it breaks my heart! When wild ducks, like hooded mergansers, fly through, he swims behind as if he wants to make friends. I think I need to find him a female Rouen. The problem is, I can only find ducklings online, and I really need an adult, pond-ready female. We had female ducklings before, but some predators must have gotten them as juveniles, because they disappeared, and I don't want that to happen again. I need a fully-grown female who can keep herself away from predators, like my drake does. I cannot find any retailers online that sell adult Rouens, though. Does anyone know where I can find one? I'm in Middle Georgia, but I can travel anywhere in the state.
Thank y'all!!
Hannah

I was only getting 3-5 eggs a day in the fall. All my chickens were molting...or broody! They finally got over all that. But, I do cheat....I added a light to the coop. Most chickens need at least 14 hours of daylight a day to produce eggs. I have my light on a timer that comes on at 3am and cuts off at daybreak. There are a lot of pros and cons to doing this, so you might want to google it and decide for yourself. I had so many chickens who didn't lay eggs for about 6 months, I decided to add the light. Getting 23=29 eggs a day from 38 hens. Many of my chickens are over 3 years old, so I think that is a good amount.

Welcome! BYC has duck threads you may try. Have you checked with Craigslist? We only have Indian Runner Ducks and one Khaki Campbell. Good luck!

Just put 19 eggs in lockdown. Weird thing. One egg had a weird floating thing in it when I candled it at day 4. Well, it has growth in it, but it's not normal. I can't even describe what it looks like inside that egg. Will be interesting to see what hatches or what I autopsy afterwards. Hatch isn't due til Tuesday.

Did I tell you I may get this rooster? It's called a 'cooper' Brahma. A lady developed it.
