So, we let the goats out this morning. They frolicked all over. So cute.......until it started raining! Need to go out and see if there are any leaks we need to worry about!
I guess no painting today! Or tomorrow. But, we can do some work inside the goat house. Like putting up their feed containers, etc. So the white one is a female. We named her Heidi. Maverick is the boy.

Still waiting for someone to tell me how to tell Welsumer female chicks with Legbar female chicks. They both look like chipmunks.

If the CCLs are barred they should have a light spot on top of the head. Wellsummers aren't barred, so they shouldn't have that spot. Since even female CCLs are usually bared, I think that should work?

Got the goats swing bridge up. Needs some tweaking, but they seem to love it! Want to tighten it up a small bit and make a platform on the far side.

I hatched some CCLs a few weeks ago. The females had a chipmunk pattern and the one male had a yellow patch on the top of his head but no chipmunk or barring pattern. As the chicks got a little older, I did see a pattern that looks somewhat like barring, so I know what you're talking about.

Lisa also brought home two Welsummer chicks that week from the feed store, one male, and one female, but both male and female had the chipmunk pattern. They're not sex-linked like the CCLs. We didn't know we had a male and a female until a few weeks had passed. (I've asked Lisa to not bring chicks home from the feed store. She does it anyway.)

In comparing chicks from the two breeds, and going by my fuzzy recollection, it seemed that the Welsummer chicks were darker. That being said, my experience is purely anecdotal and based upon a few chicks.
