YO GEORGIANS! :)

I really would love it if I could keep them and add 2 or 3 more. Can anyone tell me what type of chickens they are?View attachment 1224665
How old are they? The one with the black neck is definitely a cockerel. But if the other is ~5 months, then it's a pullet. I don't know what type of chicken. I think they are mixes. You can add more chickens, but you have to do it carefully. The new ones have to be of a similar size and it helps a lot if you have a look but don't touch policy for a while. So say you get younger chicks, put the cages next to each other so they can see and interact, but not get hurt. Then when they are bigger, you can combine with little problems.

Roosters develop their combs very early. They have saddle feathers and hackle feathers that are pointy and iridescent. I have many many breeds all living together! I love that I have variety. You can tell one from the other! I would think it was sad to have all my chickens look alike! Plus, you can get chickens that lay all different colored eggs!

Such pretty eggs! You know, in my 5 or 6 years raising chickens, I have never had a white egg layer. Even my silkies lay a creamy light brown egg. Well, now my ducks lay white eggs, but no chickens.

They'll be 4 months old on the 13th. I'll start looking for a home for my boy, and new hens or chicks to introduce once it's warmer outside. I don't want to leave my beige girl by herself. She's been with the rooster since they hatched.

I cant see the saddle area. The chicken on the left looks like a light brahma. I can't really see if the hackle feathers are pointy or not.

See the long neck (hackle feathers) and the long saddle feathers at this roosters rump? If you have a rooster, look for iridescent pointy feathers growing out from the neck and middle of the back. Females have rounded feathers.

I only had one white egg layer until a few months ago. Picked up two California Whites. They should start laying soon. They are getting red faced.

Thank you!!!! I haven't seen any iridescent feathers on either bird, and I hadn't noted if they were rounded or pointed, but I will definitely check that out asap!!

Brrrr! 12° outside Frizzles came inside tonight. Jo has been picked on a little and the top of her saddle back is missing feathers. She was shivering today so I brought her in and Meriah too for company. The other silkies seem to be doing fine in this weather. Pipping under pepper tonight she is also inside as well as the mixed broody. Just too cold for babies. They will go back out when it warms up a bit into the nursery. The nursery is actually pretty warm compared to the rest of the coops.the water doesn't freeze in there. It took me a while to warm up water and take to the coops today. The water is freezing out there. The birds have a wind block but no heat lamp. It doesn't stay this cold in So Georgia usually. By the weekend it will be almost 60° and only get down into the 40's° the next two weeks. The birds will be fine then. I won't have to worry about them so much.

Yeah, I hate when it gets so cold here because the animals just aren't used to it. The only ones inside are my ducklings, but I hadn't put them outside yet. I'm just thankful I don't have any bigger animal babies due until at least February. Though my showgirl is setting. But it's only been about a week.

My two have been in the house since the overnight temp started dropping into the mid to low 30s. They and the parakeets have taken over my front room until we get back to a "normal" Atlanta winter - and I get a few more hens so they can keep each other nice and warm.
