YO GEORGIANS! :)

Yes, definitely. Well, if you do it on a weekend.
Gonna do 2 weekends in Feb, weather dictating. Feb 10th and Feb 17th.
The Newnan show is on the 17th so I figure most of the chicken folks could come on the 10th.
If you want to come, help work for a few hours & learn about mushrooms you can buy a fresh logs for $5 each.
No work - then the fresh logs are $10 each.

I'm not going to the show, so I can come on either day. And I am happy to work and learn. Thanks!

Ducks in winter are not a profitable venture for us. Tried to process some at 12 weeks but still couldn't get all the down off of them.

Talk to the Asians, Jack. My family is Vietnamese and they love fresh duck and they like to butcher their own. They *will* haggle with you, but might be a way to make things profitable or at least sustain you through the winter down-time. And yes, yes folks, I know I'm generalizing and not speaking for ALL Vietnamese or ALL Asians..... :) You might make the rounds at any nail shops or Chinese restaurants in your area.....

Oo, oo! I'll come. :) I'd like to learn about growing mushrooms.

Oh yay! Im going to the Newnan show! I will probably be wearing our Yo! Georgian shirts we got! If anyone else is going, let me know! Does anyone want some hatching eggs? I will also have chicks then. Anyone interested in fun and unique chicks?

The weather has been the biggest problem with getting them processed. Just too darn cold to be wet.
And in "my" area, there aren't any nail salons or chinese restaurants. I have thought about swinging by some near work. Will do that after I come up with weights and prices.

Hey fellow Georgians - New guy here doing lots of reading. Brand spanking new to the raising chickens world. At the moment I haven't even started yet but I've got to get moving on this. Planning on building a coop/run but not quite sure how yet. It's hard to find any real good (free) plans to build from and my lack of experience with coops prevents me from jumping in. If anyone has or knows of any I'd love to have the opportunity to see them. Let me know.
I'm only planning on having 4 layers as I don't want to get overrun with daily eggs. I've got a few breeds picked out so I'll see what's available when I get the coop complete. At the moment I think my first choice is a Speckled Sussex.

Anyhow, love reading all the info.

Hey Skip! Welcome to the world of Chickens! First thing you will learn about chickens is that there is a disease you will catch called chickenitis! Once you catch it, 4 chickens won't be enough! You will want to buy more and more! You will become obsessed with chickens! You will want ones that lays blue eggs and ones that lays green eggs and ones that lay olive eggs and ones that lay chocolate colored eggs! You will have trouble with chicken math.....your chickens will multiply!

ok, seriously, you can go into this website and look under coops. You can see how people have built their own coops. There are lots of instructions and ideas. There are certain things you will need to know. How many sq feet per chicken, ventilation, protection from predators, what materials not to use, etc. You will want a good place for the feed and the water. You will need to know about where to put the roosts.

You can also download many books on chickens and coops. They will tell you all about those things I mentioned above.

Speckled sussex are a good breed. Sweet and pretty chickens! Easter Eggers are good and gives you fun colored eggs. What other breeds are you looking at?

Skip, You could come and look at my set up and we can talk about chickens and coops!
