YO GEORGIANS! :)

Good for you! Sounds like you're onto what might be a profitable business.

So being new to the hobby my brain is constantly thinking of things chicken right now. It's mostly around the design of my coop but the one real worry I have is getting the birds. It's going to be a small setup and the birds that I would like to have are (1) Barred Rock, (1) Speckled Sussex and then (1 or 2) Easter Eggers or Rhode Island Reds for a total of 4 birds.
So how do I plan to find and get these all at the same time or at least within a week so I can raise them in a brooder. I would like to start sometime in March.

I also posted this as a new thread in the Raising Baby Chicks forum.

Well, starting in March/April, many of the local feed stores will be getting their chicks in. You can check with different Tractor Supplies because each store will have different chicks. You can go to the Newnan Poultry Show. There will be vendor selling chicks, ducks, rabbits, goats, hatching eggs, t-shirts, etc. I usually always get something!

I normally don't ever get sick, but my husband handed me his drink the other day and I drank after him and right away thought, Oh no! Now I'll catch what he has......sure enough! coughing my head off! And, here's a joke.....I was suppose to teach a class at the Girl Scout Camp next weekend and got an email regarding the weather for THIS weekend! WHAT??? How did I get the date wrong! It's been on my calender for months....wrong date! So, now I have to get all my class stuff to a friend so she can teach the class for me!

I am fairly new to chickens. I currently have 2 roosters- Lavender Orpington (Rock) and a Copper Maran (Tyrone) as well as 2 Lavender Orpington Hens (Felicia and Bella). Unfortunately, I lost my two other Lavender Orpingtons about 2 months ago. As of last Spring, I acquired two more girls a Silver Laced Wyandotte (Lacey) and a Rhode Island Red (Poppy). I also have 2 almost 4 month old Chocolate Orpingtons (no names yet) who are almost ready to be introduced to the other girls. Additionally, I have 2 month olds- Bielefelders, Cream Legbars, and 55 Flowering Hens- (total of 8) along with two 2 month old roosters- 1 Cream Legbar (no name yet) and 1 Bielefelder (Spike). As of yesterday I had 9 guineas, but when it was time to return to their kennel yesterday during the evening hours, only one wanted to go in. The rest flew into trees...brrrr we got snow and were below freezing....As I look out this morning, I only see four- sad day!

Wish I had better news today. My chickens are fine but my husband was in another car accident, someone else's fault again. Just got back from the ER he is doing ok in a lot of pain and our car was totaled again the one we just bought in Nov. Now we are.without a vehicle again won't be.doing much with chickens for awhile. It is my hobby but with my husband's health failing and this latest trauma the.chickens are becoming more.of.a.burden then a hobby. I love.my chickens especially the Silkies but fear I will have to let.them.all go. If anyone is interested or.knows anyone interested.in purchasing some wonderful chickens let me.know. I have a mixture of silkies Cochins and layers and some project chickens. Hope I can sell them
Thanks.
