YO GEORGIANS! :)

Hello! Carlton GA here, about 20 miles east of Athens. Wet and soggy as well. Have a mixed flock of 11, with too many roos (3). Trying to set up a rooster only coop, but the weather is not cooperating!

This is ridiculous! I'll have to post a pic of the LAKE in front of my coop/run if it's still raining when I get home.

Which I feel CERTAIN it will be...

Welcome to BYC Michael. We may be able to help with the chickens but so far we haven't to do much about the weather but complain.

Well I'm working on My Chicken Plucker its the whizbang kind. I have to finsh it before the 25th of Dec. because that is the day my Red Rangers will be ready to slaughter. Oh I aslo have 6 cuckoo Marans eggs that should hatch this friday 7 or 8 Black Copper Marans eggs that will hatch next friday And i Just put more in the Bator last night.

WAR EAGLE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Figured I would finally come in and post a reply here. I'm about 45 mins south of Atlanta in the TOWN of Jackson (not Jackson County).

I do year-round hatches and currently own Ameraucana, Easter Eggers, Leghorns, Plymouth Rock mixes, Sumatras, Polish (need to replenish my hens though - the last one was killed by a raccoon a few weeks ago), Phoenix, Bantam Cochin, Bantam Cochin Frizzle, and Silkies.

Ordering a huge group from McMurray this coming Spring though, including Large-Fowl Cochins, Wyandottes, Barred Rocks, Cuckoo Marans, and Bantam Sebrights.

Also suffering from this horrible non-stop rain! I just brought a younger easter egger inside because her eye is goopy and swollen shut. Most likely an upper respiratory infection caused by all of the MUCK covering the yard (grass? what grass??) And I lost a frizzle roo this morning, I'm assuming from the same thing (NO sign of why he died).

Quick question though - do any of you know of a butcher south of Atlanta along I-75 that will take the live chickens (roosters), and give you back a ready-to-roast body?

What a sloppy mess. Despite my covered run my poor chickens look like a bunch of wet unhappy cats. Then to add insult my Welsummer Rooster and my silkie mutt rooster are chasing all the girls around. Too bad because the Welsummer rooster is shaping up to look pretty good. I may have to do a rooster only pen to. So thats a storybook house and run for my Tolbunt Polish and a bachelor pad for the roos. Its a good thing I asked Santa for a miter saw and there seems to be a big box with my name on it under the tree…..not that I have measured the box or lifted it to see how heavy it is or anything…..maybe.

Yeah my two WHITE leghorns (who get chased by the ameraucana roo) are both the color of mud right now....

But I honestly think this MUCK is causing my chickens to get sick. Nothing is drying up, so it's probably one big bacteria culture right now!
