YO GEORGIANS! :)

I know this is not a chicken subject but hopefully people will not mind....We have some Lionhead cross bunnies for sale. Some have very nice fluffy heads, colors are white, fawn and black. We are outside Savannah and asking $15 for the non-fluffy ones and $20 for the nice fluffy headed ones. Please pm for more information and pictures.

Hi Guys:

I am also in Northeast GA. I am currently in Athens but looking to move to a BYC friendly location. We are inclined to moving to either Oconne or Jackson County. I am also new to the forum. I posted the content below seeking more information regarding BYC ordinances in either/both locations and was directed here.

Please indulge a new Georgian and avail me the benefit of your knowledge with respect to BYC in Watkinsville (Oconne county) or Jackson County.

Thanks!

Amara

EARLIER POSTING......
=====================================

My family and I moved to GA last year and are currently residing in Athens/Clarke County. We moved from the North East and are so excited about the possibility of owning BYCs and further indulging our organic living lifestyle by gardening. Unfortunately, the subdivision we first moved into in Athens prohibits BYCs, Fortunately, we are renting so we are now looking to move once our lease is over - June 2014.

For this move, we are now looking to buy our own home in a strong school district that allows us to indulge in the lifestyles we crave: a few BYCs and gardening. We don't want to own tons of chickens but we hope to legally keep 4-6 BYCs at a time without neighbors freaking out, feeling that we are breaking the law or being terribly obnoxious neighbors.

If anyone in this community is familiar with BYC ordinance/situation in either Oconne county GA or Jackson County GA I'd be so grateful if you will kindly help me with the following information:

a) Is it legal to have BYC in your Jackson County/Oconnee County?
b) Are there citieis within these counties where BYCs are prohibited?
c) In cities where zoning laws allow for BYCs, are there any contrainsts with respect to residential home lot size?
d) Are you aware of any subdivisions within respective counties that prohibit BYC?

Thank you all for any and all information. Wishing everyone a save and happy holiday season.

Amara

Figured I would finally come in and post a reply here. I'm about 45 mins south of Atlanta in the TOWN of Jackson (not Jackson County).

I do year-round hatches and currently own Ameraucana, Easter Eggers, Leghorns, Plymouth Rock mixes, Sumatras, Polish (need to replenish my hens though - the last one was killed by a raccoon a few weeks ago), Phoenix, Bantam Cochin, Bantam Cochin Frizzle, and Silkies.

Ordering a huge group from McMurray this coming Spring though, including Large-Fowl Cochins, Wyandottes, Barred Rocks, Cuckoo Marans, and Bantam Sebrights.

Also suffering from this horrible non-stop rain! I just brought a younger easter egger inside because her eye is goopy and swollen shut. Most likely an upper respiratory infection caused by all of the MUCK covering the yard (grass? what grass??) And I lost a frizzle roo this morning, I'm assuming from the same thing (NO sign of why he died).

Quick question though - do any of you know of a butcher south of Atlanta along I-75 that will take the live chickens (roosters), and give you back a ready-to-roast body?
I saw someone advertise on Craigslist that they do this service. It was listed under "Chickens"

Cold :( LOL! Hot Friday.. Wet all weekend.. Now freakin freezing. Went out and fluffed the sweat and rain out of Pony Boy's coat so it can do its real job tonight.... *sigh*

I do love my home sweet GA though... :)

I agree with the cold part! But I just settled into bed with an electric blanket, and my little sick EE next to me (she refuses to roost elsewhere). Also sporting a mug of hot chocolate in my hand, and recorded episodes of NCIS.

Might have some EE/RIR chicks for sale soon. My RIR might be going broody, too. She's starting to leave feathers behind and sleep on the eggs.
