YO GEORGIANS! :)

Quote: She might take to the chick - you could always try the 'sneak the chick underneath her at night' method, but be ready to pull the chick out in case she turns on it. I haven't tried that before, but know people who have successfully. I know silkies are normally really good broodies, but again, I don't have any experience with that. Good luck in whatever you decide!

If you do keep the chick alone for it's safety or for whatever reason, and spend regular time with her you could end up with a wonderful pet. That's what happened with me, but mine had a hard time integrating with the flock later. She really had no idea that she was a chicken, and ran squawking from the others, which of course made them chase after her. She did eventually join the flock, but there was a lot of very sad, pitiful crying for "mommy" (aka me) by the patio door for a week or two. It was really hard on both of us, but she adjusted and did very well with the rest of flock after a while!

Here is ours with her little buddies. She used to sleep under the wind of the red & blue parrot like it was a blanket. So cute!

good luck!

Thanks so much for the advice and for sharing your pics. Here is my lone baby. She snuggles with the wool sock or spends the res of her day in front of the mirror.

There is much noisy egg song and just general eggcitement today. We finally have some sunshine. Maybe I'll get more than 2-4 eggs from my 25 layers. I have about 7 who are in the midst of a molt so that leaves a possible 18. Not holding my breath on that but the girls do seem to be crowding the egg house more than has been usual the last few months.

Yes the weather was much improved today! Let my girls out when I got home around 4:30, guess I'll go in a minute to be sure they found their way back. ;) They were MOST pleased to have their little outing.

Jeeeez, I was actually kidding about "seeing if they found their way back," but it's official: brunettes are smarter than blondes. Both black stars were back in the coop and roosted, while the two "blondes" were frantically pecking away at the wire, trying to get into the run from the wrong end.

I tried herding them back around the barn but it's a long-ish walk for a chicken and they just KNEW we were going the wrong direction and would turn back in a panic to get to the wire, lol.

Finally got them back to the coop and then it was frantic flapping trying to roost since by now it's dark.. So I picked them both up and put them in their place. The brunettes just kind of shook their heads watching. :p

Haha. It's so nice when other folks get it. Some of my chickens are brilliant while others not so much. When I try to tell non-chicken people about how smart some of mine are they look at me like I'm nuts. Uh huh. I'm the nuts one.

I'm glad you got them all in.
