YO GEORGIANS! :)

Totally bummed. I ordered Tolbunt hatching eggs and only one hatched. At one week you can see it's starting to turn cross beak. My heart is in my socks, I hate to cull and it looks like I'll have to again now. My heart is heavy for this little baby and a total loss of my investment.
Awww, so sorry. Is there any way you think vitamins could help? Sometimes it does. If it is genetics, it doesn't help; I googled it once. I had a cross beak chick who lived to be 6 months old, but died because it just couldn't get enough food. Had to scoop it. Some people tube feed theirs....not a route I wanted to take. Sorry about the poor hatch. Were they even fertile? Most people will resend the eggs for just the cost of shipping.

Thanks. From the various sources I have read including the Chicken Health for Dummies, it's more a genetic thing. Either Mum did not get a proper diet or carries it or the eggs could have gotten too cold before I got them. This would also explain the poor hatch, 6 out of 10 were not fertile, 1 fully developed but never pipped, 2 that never absorbed their yolk sac and then this little cross beak. I have just put her down, I work full time and can not tube feed cross beaks during the day, I also wanted this Tolbunt for possible breeding stock.

I have a little special girl in the form of a silkie that can barely walk and can not get up in to the coop at night with out assistance. She gets special loving and treats from my husband and myself. This chick was not meant to be though. I did email the person I purchased the eggs from, but I've not had very good responses in the past with any questions regarding shipping or the subsequent chicks. I'll hold out and try again with more involved breeders next time.

Am visiting my daughter in the city near Washington, DC. She wanted chickens so we got her this cute little indoor coop and 3 bantam Seramas. They seem to love their new home. We will be taking home one of the birds though, as it appears to be a male. And just when we were wondering where she was going to find chicken supplies here in the city, we discover a Tractor Supply not more than 5 miles from her home! She is so excited! Now, I need to find a home for a Serama roo! Ugh!

bottom level..The top level has a nest area. Really cute.
wow what brand is this little coop?? Trixie? Where did you find it?

It was one we found online. Sears carries it. We modified it by adding a floor to the bottom and put it on a table we built so she could put her cat's litter pan under it. The coop sold for $99 with free shipping. We also added the roosts.

Quote: Thank you! I'm thinking it would be a good broody hutch for our small bantams & seramas when they hatch out chicks....only a little worried about the slope on the ramp (i.e. if it's too steep for tiny chicks). I could always put in the divider for the first week or two to keep them up top....

Selling my blue Cochin bantam rooster. Very fertile. He's pet quality though. He's got great lacing, foot feathering, saddles, and hackles. He's got good spikes on his comb. Free to a good home. Local pick up only.
