YO GEORGIANS! :)

I just spoke with Southland Grains in Tifton and he has been trying to find it for a year now with no luck. We may have to order thru an online company (if one of those can be found) I haven't searched online dealers just local. Oh, Southland has wheat and oats though if you want those. 229-382-1520 Southland Grains LLC

I've only been able to find it in small quantities online, like for "barley grass juicing".

How do ya'll package your eggs forsale at a livestock swap or somewhere like that or farmers market? I have never been to one, and am going to a swap tomorrow. Thanks in advance for any advice.

I got the 50 normal-size cartons. I use them for EVERYTHING. They're blank, so you can write what it is on them - hatching eggs or "farm fresh eggs".

I think I need to calm down. I read something or find something, and I turn into a combination of an encyclopedia and a rolodex.

What do y'all think happened to this egg? I collected a few of them with less and less wrinkles each.....
Wow, that's pretty interesting! I say you should hatch it and call the chick "wrinkles".

There was a thread on the incubating and hatching forum a while back about the odd eggs that hens will lay now and then. And there were some pretty strange looking eggs in there! But this one comes really close to beating them all!

Guess who has a new EE laying?!?

No, not my grandma. She's been dead since 2005. I think. Anyway, IT'S ME! I got an extra EE egg a few days ago, and THOUGHT maybe there was a new layer, because it also had streaks of blood on it, like from a first-time layer. But I thought MAYBE I just didn't gather the eggs at the same time both days to explain the extra, and one of the hens was having trouble passing it. But I collected the usual number yesterday, and got an extra one again today. So clearly, I've got a new hen laying green eggs!

Did you ever do the surgery on this chicken?  Just do like in the video.  Wrap her legs in a towel and pluck or cut some of the feathers from her chest.  Make about a 1-2 inch incision with a razor blade knife (be sure and sterilize it first)..  Just reach in a finger and pull out all the gunk.  clean it out as best you can.  Most people either sew it up with needle and thread or super glue it back together.  (There will be two layers of skin that will have to be put back together.   The outer skin and the crop. If possible, do one at a time,  If not, you can do all at one time.   The chicken usually takes this all in rather calmly.  Good luck!

I was just finishing up at about the time you posted this :). I had to wait for a friend to get done with her errands, but she and I have a good deal of experience with doggie home-doctoring and wound care, etc. , so I was glad to have her help. We both watched the video referenced on BYC the most, and with our background experience it was easier than we thought. I was done in 20 minutes, and boy was there a lot of dried grass! Hay is now illegal in my coops. Elizabeth is resting comfortably in the computer room, wearing her fancy figure-eight "vest" of purple vet-wrap over her super-glued 1.5 inch incision. I'm going to go get her some yogurt in a minute. The procedure went just as you described; I guess I can add to my resume now, lol.

This is her immediately post-op at my shop at the farm. She's not thrilled about the vest.

Hmmm ... each time Roboduck goes to a feed store without me I end up with a new incubator. Now I'm really starting to wonder how many eggs he truly has coming.
