Ok, I need your advice everyone. I have a rooster I hatched that is now 22 weeks old. His hormones are raging! Our other rooster, who died, was such a gentleman with his girls. Hardly ever saw him doing anything....always away from us. This new one is jumping on one girl then walks over and jumps on another! My husband and I hate the bare spots he has started to leave on our hens....and he just started this like 2 weeks ago!!!! We like the way our girls have beautiful feathers and don't want them to look abused! We have 11 girls right now with about 10 more at POL. I am really tempted to sell our rooster and do without one. BUT, I was really looking forward to next spring when I wanted to mix and match my roo to different hens to have fun colored egg layers. (The roo carries a green/blue egg gene), I have some frizzles and some naked necks I wanted to put with this roo. I wanted to hatch my own eggs. So what do I do? We have about 30 chickens/chicks right now. My husband wants me to only have about 20. Ugg, what do I do??? It wouldn't be so bad except we rent our home as a vacation rental and the coop is close to the house. The rooster crows and when it floods like it has been doing, the run gets drenched and smells.....not a good thing to have close to home with renters here! What do you guys do with hens that are not laying. I have an 18 month old Barred rock who stopped laying a month ago. So, do I keep the rooster and hope he calms down or do I sell him and just not do eggs next year????
