Welcome to BYC Michael. I am Byron from Byron. I don't have any chickens but I am a bit closer. There is a hatchery called the Georgia Mad Hatcher between Perry and Hawkinsville just south of US 341. There is at least one person that I have seen from Macon that has chickens. He may have some Easter Eggers. There are a few people from the Middle Georgia area on here. There is a person from Cadwell I forget what he has.
I think im just gonna make a long drive here soon, Ive decided on the ee or ameraucanas maybe 2 of both all hens for now. Happy thanksgiving to everyone btw
Hey Michael, I'm in Griffin is I'm a bit closer than some of these folks. I'll have EE chicks after the first of the year. I'm setting up the 'bator Dec 11th. If I can get a vehicle that runs I could meet you part way.
Boom! (My grandkids told me that means the same as 'Yea') I got my first egg from my 30 week old Indian Runner Duck! Can't wait to taste the difference! Indian Runner ducks are known to outlay almost every chicken out there! So, hopefully she will lay one again tomorrow! I still have a few Indian Runner Drakes for sale. 3 boys to 2 girls is asking for trouble. Anyone want to buy one (or two)? I would ask that you get them for pets and not food. Just love these guys.
Hope everyone had a great holiday!
One group of renters left this morning at 11 and now waiting for the next group coming any time now! I am exhausted with changing sheets, washing towels, windows, floors, etc. They will be here until Sunday and then the cleaning starts all over again. Ugh! But, renting our home as a vacation rental is nice since I get to stay home and enjoy my chickens and my beautiful home!
Yea. Got 10 eggs already this morning! That means I have some new egg layers! And there are still a few hens on the nest!
So, my husband is constantly telling me I have too many chickens and every day wants to know why I keep the ones who are not laying eggs, and every day I tell him that "those 10 are still babies and are not old enough to lay yet". And he will say the same thing the next day and the next. OMG, why can't he understand that it would be like asking a 9 year old girl to have babies! Ugh!
So yesterday we are at the feed store and they have 4 7 month old Cuckoo Marans for sale. So what does my husband do? Yea, the one who tells me everyday that I have too many chickens? He buys me one! So now I have too many plus one! You gotta love him!
And today, my son is in FL picking me up 4 pullet and 1 roo Golden Cuckoo Marans and 2 pullet Araucanas! My friend is taking a trio of the GCM and I get the other 4 chicks. So, then I really will have too many chickens! hahhahah! Love the chicken obsession and the chicken math! (But, hey, realistically, some of these chickens will not make it to adulthood as we have so many predators here!) My friend just lost 4 chickens this past week. My other friend lost her entire flock! I lost 8 in one month this summer, so it makes sense to have too many, right?!?!?
I have a couple Easter Eggers at point of lay that I could sell. Also a couple New Hampshires and 3 Buff laced polish Roosters. They are all 6 months old and raised together. I'm in Covington and leery of posting on Craigslist.
