Goooood Mornin'! What's on the agenda today? I'm setting my turkey eggs around lunch time. Cayuga ducklings should be here in the morning so I'm going to get a tote and yet another heat lamp. Gotta check to see if my chocolate Rex doe had her babies last night, she was being weird yesterday. Also need to get some screen and price out PVC and cattle wire. Oh and I've gotta get LT's Lemon Pepper eggs ready to go. Anybody want to have a coop building party? Beer and food will be provided. Next weekend when Chickenrunner83 will be home.

I always cage mine for about 5-7 days and feed them scratch and sprouts. Helps keep them from being quite so tough.

Nice, I didn't know that. Thanks.

Also, we keep them off food for 24* (well at least overnight I guess) to empty their system.. Keeps things neater for dressing them out.

I do the same. My grandmother was the one who told me to cage them. It does work, but, if it's older and/free ranged it'll still do best as a stew bird.
