The lime helps keep the bad poopy smell down, since the rain likes to keep it wet. And March usually is the bad storm season in GA.
And I assume it is safe for the chickens to be near it?...

Gotta hit up TSC today (please don't have birds, please don't have birds, please don't have birds)...
But I have to take my niece with me, and she's already been saying she wants another "Quackers" (which is what they called their old mallard duck). I'm hoping I can come back without birds - ESPECIALLY considering my sister took her trash to the dump yesterday and picked up a chicken coop someone discarded. I've GOT to resist the temptation to fill it!
Kinda. Their pen is getting a major overhaul today. Lots of mud will be shoveled out, lime will be put down, I may get something to put mulch down with (we have the mulch, just need a fork or something to MOVE it from the giant pile with), and then lots and lots and lots and lots of pine shavings! So the lime will be buried under other stuff.And I assume it is safe for the chickens to be near it?...
