The lime helps keep the bad poopy smell down, since the rain likes to keep it wet. And March usually is the bad storm season in GA.

And I assume it is safe for the chickens to be near it?...

SO thankful for that!
Last year, it was raining, the year before, tornadoes. Almost every year, there's precipitation on my bday, snow or rain. So happy I finally get a pretty day.

Gotta hit up TSC today (please don't have birds, please don't have birds, please don't have birds)...


But I have to take my niece with me, and she's already been saying she wants another "Quackers" (which is what they called their old mallard duck). I'm hoping I can come back without birds - ESPECIALLY considering my sister took her trash to the dump yesterday and picked up a chicken coop someone discarded. I've GOT to resist the temptation to fill it!

Guess I should have said, predators is why I close "mine" up.. We all have our reasons.

And my ducks love to play in the water so much, I would always want them to be able to. I would think even with a bucket they would find a way to get into it.. They're just so cute to watch. You will love having them in your flock.

Just remember to be careful about a male duck around hens.. I believe a drake can kill a hen if he mates with her, so I've always been told on here. Never seen my ducks try it though.

Kinda. Their pen is getting a major overhaul today. Lots of mud will be shoveled out, lime will be put down, I may get something to put mulch down with (we have the mulch, just need a fork or something to MOVE it from the giant pile with), and then lots and lots and lots and lots of pine shavings! So the lime will be buried under other stuff.

Plus hay for the nesting area.
