Thanks ab and mrsd'szoo, I have always been confused with that, but know I know that Cinnamon and Sugar are Easter Eggers. :hugs

Does anyone else name their chickens?

No problem, I think we all get suckered into that -sort of a first initiation into being "real" chicken keepers, lol. I have always named my chickens in the past, but with the flock I've got coming up, I don't know if I can keep it up. I had, until recently when I restructured everything:

Sheldon, Raj, and Leonard -the bachelor EE's
Howard and Bernadette -the bantam Silkie pair
Amy, Penny, Leslie, and Alex -the BO girls
Elizabeth, Jane, and Mr. D'Arcy -the Ameraucanas

Since then, I've lost Mr. D'Arcy, traded Jane, added Peep the Guinea hen and Dapper Dan the BO roo, and sold Sheldon and Raj.

With all the new chicks I've got, the name sets have gotten mixed up and I don't think I'll be able to think of matching names, so I don't know what I'll do.

Maybe @GAMarans
can tell you what they call this in the Great White North... ;-)

I ROFL every time I hear my mother-in-law say it.

Oh dear.. What??

I free range so they don't need as much commercial feed. I also grow fodder (wheat and flax sprouts) for them and the rabbits. I usually spend $30-$45 every 10 days.

Jawdrop!! You mean for birds and rabbits COMBINED, right??

I love the names! I have named all of my chickens, the previous flock of 12 which had all coffee related names, and the current flock. I think it is some sort of initiation of becoming "real" chicken keepers. lol My flock consists of

Cinnamon and Sugar- the sweet Easter Eggers
Pepper- the mean sometimes/ nice sometimes Barred Rock
Princess Cleo- Pepper's accomplice and Rhode Island Red

I'd love to add a few Buff Orphingtons, Mille fleur d'uccles, light brahmas, and some ducks, but Pepper and Princess Cleo wouldn't allow that and I can't stand to watch the babies get tortured. Done it once, not doing it again.

I have thought about banning them to the chicken tractor that I hate, but then it would just be torture to me, so no more chickens for now

I'll just have to drool over y'alls babies.

What are you adding to your flock?

Has anyone else had bad luck with Barred Rocks and Rhode Island Reds?

So the other day Dad tells me the chickens are getting to be too much work, and we have enough chickens (this after spending several hours working on a chicken tractor).
He just called me from TSC asking if I wanted some SLW chicks!!!

Cute names!
I named my first flock, but I only had like 11 or 12 chickens. Now I have nearly 40, with more on the way. I can't remember that many names. Besides, I'll be eating some of my birds, and I just don't want to sit down to a fried chicken dinner thinking "we're eating Lizzie!"
