YO GEORGIANS! :)

Seriously, what has abmaddox given me? This is some kind of mutant silkie thing giving me all kinds of oddball offspring!

It APPEARS to be a solid black hen, and she is being bred to a solid white roo. While I am getting solid white chicks from the white hen, this black hen has yet to give me a solid black chick!

First was the partridge chick. Then came the white chick with black tipped down. And now, a color variety that is typically only seen on POLISH chickens:

Yes indeed - a white crested black SILKIE!

I've had this hen long enough that these babies should be from my own white roo now. So it could be bargain's lines throwing this in as well.

Both parents are correct type though - black skin, five toes, etc. Abmaddox has never owned polish chickens, and I don't think bargain has either.
So how in the world did I get a white-crested black silkie?? Lol!

If you don't want her, I'll take her and that adorable fluff ball! ;)

I have been looking at plans for my coop, and have a question. What is the theory behind a raised coop versus a built on the ground coop? The one we always had on our farm as a kid was not raised. Is one better than the other, or just preference?

Like carcar said, space and shade. I raised mine also because the airflow underneath is supposed to help cool the inside. Does it really work? Who knows?!

alright anyone got automatic chicken coop doors? I have been looking online and they are very expensive. Anyone got a DYI solution on the cheap?

I went through the trouble of making a pulley system that runs to the outside of the coop. I can stand outside the coop and open or close the chicken door on the inside. However it is always left open.

Oh no, this one is a keeper! I've never seen a white-crested black silkie before. If I happen to get another of the opposite sex, you better believe I'll be doing some inbreeding there, lol!

Its just weird that I'm getting so many different colors! Oh, and add another two marks under the "white with black-tipped down" column. Got two more of those this morning!

I bet they're cuties though!!!

They are! I'm looking forward to crossing these "white" ones to see if I get a hidden color. But the white-crested black is one I definitely want to reproduce as-is!

Banks County GA here,

~~Hi! I have several Buff Rocks and a few Buff Orpingtons and they are all female. I need to find a rooster that is compatible with my hens that is still young but at least 5-6 months old, with a decent disposition. I live in the Northeast Georgia area, near Commerce, Cornelia and hope I can find someone nearby that has too many Roosters and would like to find a home for them. If anyone has one, please let me know. Thank you so much!

Tracy
