My cats were born right before I got chickens. They've been raised around them, and know not to mess with them. The other days, one of my cats was feeling frisky and went to sniff at my youngest roo. Well he gave her a good little kick, and she ran away like fire was chasing her. LMBO!! Oh, I was in tears after laughing so hard!

It's been a bit of a struggle with the new babies though. I keep them away from the cats, but every now and then I take one out and hold it to their noses so they can smell it. So far, so good.

A chick got loose outside the other day, and BooBoo starting going for it, but a quick and hard-toned "No BooBoo" from me made him stop in his tracks. They are learning. I'm proud of my cats. They are so good-natured and sweet.

What is up with the weather? I am trying to not complain because so many friends up north are dealing with snow but goodness it seems like the weather is toying with us here. Plus, I have eggs in the mail and I am worried!

Glad there are others that have babies at home! I agree that my home births were amazing compared to my hospital birth.

This made me giggle. My husband did NOT want a homebirth(I brought it up while pregnant with my son). But our son had other plans.

Good Evening folks :).

I've loved the chick pics, and the celebrations of BYC Georgians getting fit! The fitness/weightloss issue is a hot-button issue at our house, because Mr. Zoo and I both need to watch our weight due to health issues, but we know how much work and dedication that sort of thing takes! The birth discussions create more questions, but I know how much that sort of thing makes guys squirm, so I'll leave that alone for now -you're welcome, guys :).

I am dealing with rodents at the farm too. I have gotten barn cats, but they are still adjusting to their surroundings right now. I had them contained ina coop for ten days, then let them three days ago. They are staying out of sight, but I see their footprints around their food, so they are still around. I also put out two old-fashioned snap traps in areas that the other critters can't get too, and caught a rat in one today. I'm not opposed to rats being rats, but I think they need to not be accustomed to eating massive amounts of the feed I pay good money for. They can live perfectly well elsewhere on the 15 acres, without contaminating my rabbit and chick feeders with fecal matter and urine

In spite of the freakin' weather today, I did get my post-surgery hen moved back to the farm with a "new" flock (restructuring of the birds left after sales/trades). The introduction went well so I'm happy about that. Both of the Mini Rex does that were expecting today delivered 5 kits each, so that's exciting -we have ten babies from our dear departed Cheddar! I can't wait until the weather warms up enough to check their markings better :). I decided to keep my oldest chicks home until after the freezing weather, so they are still in the garage instead of at the farm. AND...still no intact eggs from my Silkies, and the Naraganssett Turkeys are still not laying yet.

Sigh...tomorrow's another day. But it should be a good one, because we're having a roadtrip to bring eggs to GAM (a.k.a GAMmy,lol)!
 
Took me forever to type that couple of short paragraphs -had to keep answering goofy questions from thre little zookeeper who is still awake far too late. Important queries like "where are the dog's feelings?...I don't want to hurt them by accident." I don't know where this kid gets her energy from...

About 2 and a half weeks ago, I bought 8 Ameraucana and 4 Dixie Rainbow chicks from TSC.
Also 1 week ago I had some of my baby chicks hatch and then the rest hatched a few days ago. All together had 16 out of 19 hatch, but unfortunately today one of my chicks died.

These are the Ameraucana and Dixie Rainbow chicks.
