YO GEORGIANS! :)

I had a good day road-tripping with @abmaddox1981 to RoboFarms (sans Robo) and meeting GAM. I even have a sweet little chick to add to my flock :) ! General Pepper will keep his name, much to Mr. Zoo's amusement. I would have gotten some pics, but I had to turn around after getting him settled here and go pick up my son in Atlanta. I got home to find that my littlest runt of the Light Brahma from TSC still had his eyes closed. I'm not sure what's going on with it, but it's a third the size of the others, it walks fine and eats and drinks, but today it was moving around with it's eyes closed and not much in it's crop. I'm sitting with it on my lap after hand feeding it slurry, and it is asleep. I did see it open one eye for a bit, and it pooped normal poop twice, so that's positive. I'm just stumped about the problem. Any ideas?

Has anyone one thought about some of us getting together and pitching in on the cost of a whole cow or calf being processed for the meat? It could fill our freezers for a yr. I cant afford the whole cost or freeze the whole amount. I don't even know anymore if it would be feasible, I have no clue what the costs would be either. guess the caffeine has kicked in

i would be interested too. :)

CL,,, I will start to look as well. I did ask the butcher at the grocery store about getting pork belly so I could make my own bacon, but he told me I would have to buy the whole 200lb order, because they would get the whole pork belly from a pig and no one has asked before, with $100 dp. and $100 to pick up, would be ok because that would make the bacon $2.00 lb after spices and processing, but what to do with 200lbs of bacon, ya know
I can't believe you don't know what to do with 200lb of Bacon! Eat it of course! :)

I am in Lyon s GA

Well we didn't get as much done today as i had hoped, but we did get lots of trees trimmed, big limbs cut up for the wood stove pile for this winter, and the little branches piled up to be burned when my husband has vacation the week of April 6.

I have the egg candling class tomorrow at 10 am. I'm really excited! Anything I should know. I've NEVER candled an egg before.

Who turned the cold back on? I thought we talked about this? Jack Frost go home, your drunk!

Seriously, it is cold! I cranked the heat in the house and opened the garage door so the brooder would get some more warm air. I have been meaning to raise the light up as the chicks have been a ways away from under it but now I am glad I didn't. I am sure they are all right under it tonight!

AND the USPS tracker for my eggs doesn't show them having ever moved from NC so who knows if they will be here today (Thursday) like they should. I hope they are ok, where ever they really are!

I have 19 chickens and 26 chicks now, unfortunately another one of my chicks died. :(

.

I am so sorry you lost another chick :( We lost a 3 week old and it was really sad. Wish I knew why!

On a brighter note, would love to see your 19 grown ones and where they live! (yes I have coop fever!)

Sneek peek…I've been MIA because I've been either working, tending the flock and animals (including my sweet sweet hubby), down in my shop or out back…still not done but this is my Polish coop in progress. It has 3 sections inside the coop and run all of which can be opened up by the hinged doors or locked down for 3 breeding pens. By the way I've been told there is a Canton show in April but I can't find any details.

And thank you for feeding my coop fever! LOL That is stunning! Is that all your own design and work?

We were very excited to finish our coop. We were able to keep our costs to a minimum, mainly because the people that lived in our house previously left so many building supplies we could use. They even left leftover paint that matched our house! We had to invest a bit more in our run, as we have raccoons and cats roaming our area, so hopefully the girls will stay safe! Our girls are about 2-3 months from laying, so we blocked off the layer boxes until closer to time. When we had chickens at our old home, the girls would sleep in the nesting boxes, making a huge mess! We are trying out "poop trays" filled with Sweet PDZ. So far it has worked well, but we are only a week in! I got free plant trays from Lowe's to make the trays, so if the experiment with the trays does not work, then it is no loss! My husband even made tools to clean out the trays and roosts!

You did a great job! And so green about it being done. I made the newbie mistake of buying one and it is sitting in three boxes in my garage not even opened yet. I think it might have been less work to build one from scratch, cheaper maybe too! -sigh- Live and learn!

Thank you insomnia! I just got this and feel so much better about the eggs! They are just 40 minutes away!
