YO GEORGIANS! :)

Well we have to figure out something. The chicks and ducklings are doing ok but the geese are my favorites and I can't deal with these unexplained deaths. The male we bought is doing good at least.
I don't know what to say, except that I'm sorry you're not having luck. Miracle, Hope, and Wonder are fine, and they've been allowed to go outside and graze at least once per day since they were just 24 hours old. At first they couldn't get the grass to break without really gnawing the blade for a bit, but now it's so fast I only see "tip-less" plants in their path.

I also tried to make it a point to sterilize the sh** out of the brooder that I was using for chicks, before I put them in it. Bleach soak and all!

But I've actually made it a point to get them outside and on the ground as soon as possible and as much as possible, to experience what they would with a mother goose. I believe that's how their immunity builds up so well - they are exposed to everything really early.

But keep in mind that CPGs are a Critical Breed on the Conservacy list, so inbreeding is VERY likely with the parents of many of those goslings.

Okay, folks, I'm going to camp Tractor Supply today. No, literally. Kinda.

They said their stock truck usually comes in on Tuesdays. They sell out of brooder lamp bulbs within a couple of days of getting them - and then they are out of stock until the following week. I've got so many normal plain old light bulbs being used as brooder lights right now - and one with a cheap tin cake pan on it as a "lamp". I've missed out on them for the past month, now! I NEED BROODER BULBS!

So I'm going to sit at the one in McDonough until the truck comes in.

While there, I need to see about buying three ducks for the niece who lost hers, and the nephew who wants his own, and a bag of chick feed. But mostly, the brooder bulbs! So if their truck is late, and any of you come through while I'm waiting, stop by and say hello! LMAO!

I'll probably be checking out their tarps and fence posts, trying to ghetto-rig a tent inside of the store to sleep in until the bulbs arrive.

Lol good luck with that please take us a pic if u do !

My eggs are pipping... but on the wrong end... I have 2 that have both pipped on the wrong end. No other pips so far. First hatch and kinda freaking out.

This usually happens if the eggs were saved and incubated small side up. They should always be placed with the big end up before incubating. That is where the air sac is. When you gather eggs for incubating, don't lay them flat either. If you put the small side up, the air in the air sac naturally wants to go to the top and will travel thru the egg sometimes breaking open the yolk or tearing the little white 'strings' that hold the yolk in place. You can end up with a scrambled egg before you even open it.

nope mine were all stored pointy end down. And air sacs were all normal size shape and placement at lockdown. Chicks all developing nicely.
Leave it to my animals to defy nature and do what they want lol. They are all doing good now. Moving around tempo and humidity are awesome. Idk why they are doing it but its working for them so far

Geez you guys post like crazy. I couldn't even read through all the pages!

I've got a plan of attack to address a number of potential issues. Still no clue what the real problem is but if I tighten up all aspects of their care, we should be good going forward. I'm just so heartbroken over them. Such beautiful babies and they're gone. :( Our poor little guy ... he's hanging out with Gator (the Mallard baby) until his new girl gets here.

Hello All. :caf
I'm trying to motivate myself to get moving and get to the farm, but the rain is making me drag my feet. It's a good thing that I love those critters. I'm also starting to hit that half -panicked stage that happens before you go out of town and leave a bunch of critters for other people to take care of :(.

They wouldn't hold on to some bulbs for you?
