Out of the 12 I started with I think I have 2 more roosters. Slaughtered 2 Saturday. Rotisseried 1 yesterday and had chicken salad from the leftovers. So what do you guys think. This one a rooster?

What breed was this one again?

I'm actually wanting to say hen, because I don't see any trace of thin saddle feathers or hackle feathers. But it could just be because it's solid black, too. Seems to be carrying itself like a hen though, not standing up tall and proud.

It's sure got some pretty messed up toes, though!

This turned out to be a rooster. 9 lbs in less than 3 months.

The black one is a Black Australorp. You can tell by the black legs and green sheen to the feathers. I agree, looks like a hen, but can't tell, can't see saddle/hackle feathers.

Most male birds will develop color in it's wings. The hen above is a typical female color.

Well, in my limited experience, if they are truly Mallards they will pair off on their own fairly quickly. And my male Mal doesn't allow any Pekin, etc within breeding distance of his lady.

I don't have any female mallards. Not a single one.Two males and no females. I also have a Black Indian Runner drake who needs a girl. So I don't know what to do with him.
