YO GEORGIANS! :)

carcar gave our chickens lice.  Why would she do that?  I mean other than the obvious fact that she is evil incarnate.
I only pretended to use the permethrin to get rid of mine. What I actually did was to box them up and tossed them out on the way past your place.

Hey, I didn't want them on MY girls!!

Knew it!

Hens don't always get a choice in being mounted. One of mine did, because she was alpha hen, and the alpha roo backed her up. But when something has you by the back of your neck, it's kinda hard to stop them.
Thanks. I have never had a rooster that always got his way. My hens have always kept them in line. My main point was that when the hens start letting (by not hollering or trying to get away) the rooster mount them it can maybe signal that she is getting ready to start laying. If she hasn't started yet. None of mine would let the cockerel or rooster near them unless they were ready to start laying. It's maybe a signal. I guess I've been lucky that my hens know what they want and don't want. LOL my hens and pullets have all kinds of ways of getting away from a rooster. If the rooster gets out of line I have seen the entire bunch of them give him the cold shoulder. Maybe I'm lucky having gentleman roosters or maybe my hens made him that way. They also don't let it happen when they are molting. I always know when they are going to start laying again after a molt because they start letting the rooster mount them again. Just my experience to add to the group. YMMV.

The hollering from her hen said it though. She wasn't old enough, but the roo was ready anyway.

However, chickens (like many other animals) also use mounting as a dominance thing. My alpha hen would actually try to mount some of the younger ones. And there was no doubt she was a hen! And I've got one sumatra hen now that does the same thing.

But then I've had a goose recently get mounted by a rooster. The goose was only about one month old, but they grow so fast she was the right size for him. The goose couldn't get out of the grasp, and when he tried to balance on her back, she even lifted her tail. So I'm assuming that is more reflex than anything.

But there is no way in this world a one-month-old goose would be ready for breeding, MUCH less with a rooster! She squealed and chirped, and squawked and everything else you can imagine, but she couldn't get away from his grasp and had to sit there and deal with it (until I managed to get out of the other pen and shoo him off of her, finally).

@mrsdszoo came over recently and showed my sister, nephews, and kinda me, how to process chickens for meat. We took all of those entrails and put them around the trap. That's what finally attracted something.
I really want to learn how to do this! We need a tutorial as well!! oh and @mrsdszoo my first silkie hatched from your egg last night! 3 of the 4 went into lock-down. The other two have pipped!!

Pre-k graduation and 5th grade graduation plus 3 mama rabbits about to have babies makes for one stressed chick. Not to mention I'm gonna bawl my eyes out when my daughter gets her certifacates to move on to 6th grade.

What a coincidence.... So are my parents' grandchildren. Wow. Small world.
