curtains help, they can still access the boxes, but they are "blocked off" at night. Helped with my birds. I also cut a v into the front of the boxes so they couldn't roost on the edgeI am (im)patiently waiting for my girls to start laying. My Blue Copper Marans are at 20 weeks right now, so I know it is coming soon, especially since their combs and wattles are really getting red. I had blocked off my nesting boxes for the first couple of months they were in the coop to encourage the birds not to roost there. Since the birds are reaching egg laying age, I went ahead and opened it up, and now they are roosting (and pooping) in there. Any suggestions on breaking this behavior? I push them out of there each night, but it appears they get back in there after I close up the coop. I am thinking of putting a "curtain" up on the side right by their roost (an old towel...because I'm sure they will destroy it), but I want the nesting boxes to be open for laying. There is definitely enough roosting space.
Thanks!
