What! You mean you could have been my son!? Wow, that's a scary thought!

Scary that I am that old! LOL

Still looking for hatching eggs for July 12th set date.

Looking for a few of each:

Silkie - buff and splash or paint
BLRW
Speckled Sussex
Marans? - want really dark eggs
Silver Laced Polish

Anybody have any of these?

Well, it happened again. Saw one of the renters looking at the chickens. So I went down to talk (I love talking about my chickens!) and one of the first things she asked was, "What's wrong with those few chickens? Do they have a disease?" LOL, she was asking about my Naked Neck (Turkens) chickens!!! I told her they were a breed of chicken that don't grow feathers on their necks. I'm not sure she believed me or not! LOL. I guess she is wondering why I would want such a type of chicken. Well, I love my Naked Necks! Especially my fizzled ones! And mine lay such nice blue or green eggs!

New pics today!!!

Get ready for these...

Yep, these are my new "babies". Well, close enough because I sure am "babying" my arms and skin right now because of it! Ugh!

And this is also the reason I am about to pop two benadryl and go lay down!

I am (im)patiently waiting for my girls to start laying.  My Blue Copper Marans are at 20 weeks right now, so I know it is coming soon, especially since their combs and wattles are really getting red.  I had blocked off my nesting boxes for the first couple of months they were in the coop to encourage the birds not to roost there.  Since the birds are reaching egg laying age, I went ahead and opened it up, and now they are roosting (and pooping) in there.  Any suggestions on breaking this behavior?  I push them out of there each night, but it appears they get back in there after I close up the coop.  I am thinking of putting a "curtain" up on the side right by their roost (an old towel...because I'm sure they will destroy it), but I want the nesting boxes to be open for laying.  There is definitely enough roosting space.

Thanks!
curtains help, they can still access the boxes, but they are "blocked off" at night. Helped with my birds. I also cut a v into the front of the boxes so they couldn't roost on the edge

This is a picture of one of mine, I used bandanas for curtains

Cute idea. I may do this for my grow out pen. At night, I could block off the holes and pick up the whole thing and put them inside the garage during the night for safety!

Just when I think it is time for Robo to move to the chicken coop he does something like this ...

Fed Ex was just here delivering a surprise. Guess who now has a brand spankin' new GQF Sportsman 1502?
