YO GEORGIANS! :)

Hey all! It's been awhile since I've been here. With my kids out of school and life in general, I've been super busy. Anyway... I have a problem and hope you all can help.

About a month ago, my son was holding one of our Barred Rocks, she flew out of his hands and landed on the ground. For about an hour she wouldn't walk and then she started walking again it was with a limp. I figured she sprained her leg or something but would be ok. Since then, she sits down a lot. She can stand but doesn't stand like the rest of my flock. She also doesn't walk around like the rest of my chickens do looking for food and she definitely doesn't scratch. She spends most of the day in the coop. I do see her out and about eating and drinking but when she is at the waterer she spends a lot of time there. My other chickens just take a drink or two and then are off. She is also about half the weight of my other chickens.

So yesterday my oldest daughter was in the coop and went and picked her up(she never tries to get away from us when we go toward her). It was very apparent that something was wrong. Both of her feet curl up, she uses her whole body/wings to balance and today she is basically crawling. Her poops sticks to her feathers and is kinda dark brown and runny.

I'll attach some pictures of her and a video from this morning too.

So my question is this: do you know what could be wrong? It's been a month since she fell, but has taken a major turn since yesterday. Is there anything I can give her to make her better? Or is it best at this point to cull her? As you'll see in the video she can barely get into the coop at night and is now crawling when just 2 days ago, she would walk with a waddle limp. She doesn't get picked on my the others, but I'm thinking it might not be fair to her. Although she doesn't act like she is in pain, I'm sure she is to some degree. Could it be worms? I read on a Facebook post about someone's chicken not walking and others mentioned it could be worms. I've never wormed my girls other than putting apple cider vinegar in their water.

Obviously I'd love to save her, but if it's not worth it, I'm ok with culling her too. These are our first chickens and they are 14 weeks old.

this morning standing at the waterer.

sitting in the grass. this is how her feet look when she sits or tries to walk, but crawls

laying on her back, this is how her feet fall. (excused the poop on her foot)

VIDEO : This was after she was done drinking and trying to get back to the coop. (Sorry i can't seem to get it to link the video in this post, so here is the link.)

My mistake, they are beautiful! Where did you find them? I seriously WANT ONE!!

Hatching eggs came from Dipsy Doodle Doo. She is in SC. Her naked necks come in frizzle or not and they lay green eggs! She has a great rep. You can find her on the Naked Neck thread.

Btw, one of the ladies on the NN thread has developed a featherless chick. She has been working on it for years. Very interesting.

Look up curled toe paralysis. It may just be a vitamin deficiency.

I had a hen that did the same thing I thought she might have had a stoke or somthing like that my hen would eat drink and everything but she just couldn't get around she showed no signs of pain or anything I felt sry for her I just went ahead and culled her I was afraid she might have some kind of parasite

She hasn't always had curled toes this is a new thing that started yesterday. I do have a speckled Sussex that has curly toes. She gets around fine.

I'll look up the curled toe paralysis too. If that is what it is, what kind of vitamins can I get?

I google crooked toe paralysis and it tells you what to do.. Might be Vit D or B2 or both. Baby water soluble vitamins are what a lot of people get. The kind that starts with a Poly.....can't remember.

Also start giving her shredded cheese. Let us know how she does.

So I had a little ride-along partner on my mail route today :-)

400

Thanks! I'll pick some up after my anniversary dinner with the hubs. I've brought her inside and put her in the trough we used as a brooder.

After I give her the vitamins.. Should I give them daily? Multiple times a day and when should I start seeing improvement if she were to improve?
