YO GEORGIANS! :)

Ok, I'm desperate to try anything to keep them away until this netting arrives. I will try that tomorrow!

Get you one of these. It isn't Lethal with the bird shot rounds but it will definitely deter cats and birds. You could slip a .22 pellet in it to kill snakes if need be. I have one and love it. Also its an air rifle so you can shoot it inside of city limits etc.

Great recommendations everyone thank you!! I cancelled my order for the super expensive netting and will try the cheaper one from Amazon.

ok, so I am putting my chickens on a diet! After Rocky Rhodes came over and commented on how BIG (FAT) my chickens were, I researched fat chickens and saw that most comments about fat chickens were about hens that were not laying eggs. I now have about 6-7 hens that are young and should be laying eggs, but have stopped. WHY? Well, because they are too fat! My fault. When our renters leave, they usually leave the refrigerator full of leftovers....a lot of pasta type stuff, breads, etc. Well, I have been giving that stuff to the chickens. Yes, they love it, but too much carbohydrates! Not enough protein. So from now on, all they will get is protein and greens/veggies. No processed foods! Lets see if I can get them to start laying again! Will keep you informed!

My DH came home from work the other day with that idea from a fellow worker so I looked it up and although rat snakes like rats they also love eggs and I would worry about them getting the little Silkie chicks. I haven't started getting any eggs yet but should soon. Our JRT, the poor girl tries to catch the mice and she has caught a few lately but she is 14 and not in good health. The year that we had a mild winter and then a ton of rain in the Spring and Summer changed something around here in the soil and she now keeps a cough. The Vet said he had seen a lot of dogs with the same problem. She has been on meds for a year now but it doesn't seem to get rid of the cough completely and the heat just gets to her so bad. A cat is out of the question seeing as I am allergic to them. My DH thinks that is funny with my name being Cat and me being allergic to them.

I don't get it.

How about a ferret, or another younger dog perhaps a rat terrier? Maybe block off underneath your house to keep chickens out and set a bunch of traps baited with peanut butter.

Trying to upload a photo and it's just not cooperating today. I picked up another box turtle, although this one was a VERY unfortunate victim of careless "owners"...

We've set sticky traps but we must have smart mice because we've only caught one. It's a mobile home and has skirting all around so chickens and dogs can't get under it but the mice have little holes they have dug under the skirting. We may have to try the snap traps with the peanut butter or look in to getting a young dog like a rat terrier or another JRT. Just not ready to start over with the potty and not eat the chickens training of another puppy.

We picked up a HUGE black copper maran roo today from someone in SC and then 2 Maran hens. I hope they recover from the move quickly and give us eggs! Soooooo excited for eggs!

I am So jealous! I would love to have a black Copper Maran Roo and hen! Tried to get a pair with my mail order 7 weeks ago but they were sold out. :hit

How close are you to us? I am on my phone and cannot access our forum map. I am pretty sure we have an extra black copper marans rooster we don't need to be feeding.....And a buff brahma....and a barred rock.....and some weird bearded easteregger thing.....

Glue traps work for me... Place 2 along a wall at a 45 degree angle with their corners touching. This will form a small triangular opening between them that is on accessable by walking across them. Place a fun size snickers bar in that triangle opening for bait.
