I was at that one, too. They only had 9 birds at the moment, but it looked like room for more. The gardens were pretty impressive, and mostly English style (made to look like it grew that way naturally). The green roof was neat, too; they had just thrown the weeds directly down to the chickens, plus it seems a great way to keep the henhouse cool.

So no, you don't have to have a big operation to host.
i joined that group but have not attended yet. i suppose i should plan a visit soon

You have to be careful with grass seed because most of it is treated with chemicals. As far as keeping your root mat from molding spritz with water mixed with a little hydrogen peroxide. The hydrogen peroxide kills off mold, fungus gnats, and from the info I have found is safe(they do recommend rinsing before feeding still but is also safe on tomatoes, fruit and roses and treats the fungus and diseases that those can get). I have been using hydrogen peroxide in my sprouting and went from barely having almost 4inches of sprout to close to 6" of fodder. I don't let mine grow past day 7 though cause I pull the whole mess out and feed it to them, they tear it all apart and eat it all!
The bad part is that even if I did put it under a hardware cloth screen to let it grow I think they would pull it all through the screen because I don't use dirt....

Question: Everything on the internet I have looked at shows growing the fodder indoors. Does it have to be done indoors?

Hey Rocky Rhode! First chick out was the CCLegbar! May be a boy, though. Chick is dark from being wet, but looks like a big spot on its head.....boy? 6 more piping right now!

I posted in the illness forum, but wanted to see if you all have any ideas. Yesterday was a hot day here in Georgia.

I am chicken-sitting for my best friend today. We started out flocks together this spring and I have given her two of my 10 24 week old Buff Orpingtons. I believe all of mine are laying. One of hers started laying about 6 weeks ago and the bigger one, T-Rex, hasn't started yet. She got home yesterday to find t-Rex falling asleep while standing. Pretty lethargic. She would try to eat and fall asleep while doing it. Other than that no symptoms. Clear eyes, nose, and mouth. She checked her vent and didn't feel anything, but believed she was feeling an egg so she bathed her for 40 minutes, have her sugar water with coconut oil, yogurt, and tums. No egg. She called this morning and said she was acting fine. I got her this morning to watch over her while she works and I don't think I am feeling an egg. She was walking around my kitchen. I feel her pelvic bones, but nothing that makes me think egg. Maybe I am not feeling right. The only thing that concerns me is that she should be laying by now for her breed and age.
She has been drinking, eating, and pooping since last night. Was it just hear stroke?
