YO GEORGIANS! :)

I have a customer bringing me 4 silkies today. I'm going to split them with a friend of mine when she comes to get my sizzle roo. Now i'll have turkens, silkies and showgirls. All three sides.

My darling husband told me to go ahead and order the chicks I want for next year. Just placed the order with MPC for 2 Partridge Silkies, 2 Buff Silkies, 2 Blue Silkies and 2 Olive Eggers to be shipped on June 1. Hope they get the order correct this time. Had a few hick-ups last time.

I'll have to take a picture of my cute little cuckoo silkies!

So jealous!

Glad you got the order in before he changes his mind..

I think he felt sorry for me. We lost our Red Star last Sunday night and I cried my eyes out. It upset him too. She was always running up to us and talking her chicken talk. She was also the one to jump in your lap or on your back if you were sitting or bending over working on something. She was a sweet girl. Flowerbh I hope you are able to get the chicks you want too!

Hey Yall, this is my first winter with chickens....and its supposed to be in the 20's tonight in Athens.... do my girls need a heat lamp? They have not had one up to this point and i know we've had a couple of nights already at freezing. Thanks!

Ours did fine last year even on the 5 degree low nite with high 11 the next day…without heat in coop. But make sure no drafts, leaving some ventilation in the coop. The biggest problem is to make sure unfrozen Buwater is available early morning when they get up.

Chickens are quite cold hardy…down below zero F.

But decision should also be based on their age…..if you do feel you need heat, don't use the high heat brooder lamps..they get too hot.

Chickens are ok here in the south. When you read about heat lamps, those people are usually in the cold north where it constantly stays under 32 degrees. Chickens here do better in the cold than the heat.
