Thank You! Smyrna really isn't far from here at all. About equal to Atlanta.

I have taken a chicken to that vet in Smyrna, I was very disappointed. I felt like the Dr really didn't know anything about chickens at all beyond typical animal biology. For me it was a waste of money, but that's just my experience. I read other reviews that were similar to my experience. I belong to an Atlanta group of chickens owners "Fowl friends", we have concluded that there are no good chicken vets inside the perimeter. Also, Stay away from Dr. Tobias, think she is in Decatur. Good luck!

There is an exotic pet vet near North druid hills in Atlanta , called For Pets Sake, they are expensive but I have heard that they are much more experienced with birds. I would probably go there myself next time I needed a vet.

OMG! Just walked in from being in NYC since Sunday. My grandchildren are with me. My eggs were suppose to go into lockdown yesterday, so I had my DH turn the turner off, but didn't think he could handle taking the 41 eggs out and placing them into my cutout egg cartons or taking out the turner, so I figured I would do it when I got home. So, it is only day 19 right???? Well, I had 13 pips already! Panic! I HAD to open the bator, take the turner out and get all those eggs back in and then had one chick hatch about 15 minutes later! Then a duck about 10 minutes after that! I am just hoping the others aren't all messed up because I had to do that! And, I had asked DH how the eggs were doing and he swears he never saw any of the pips! So, my grandchildren literally walked in the house and watched the first chick hatch!

I used this vet for reptiles and exotic birds before and they are very good but are also very expensive.

It can have it's down side. But it's awesome right now.

Check out the 5 gallon bucket. The Chickens are too lite to sink.

Coming from way on down in Georgia I can admire from afar how beautiful the setting. I grew up in the North (Army parents) and spent summers here in Georgia on my Aunt & Uncles farms (probably where my chicken desire stems from). I remember the silence of snow covered woods, the cold, the peace and the hard work. PS I had a Basset named Ethel, I loved her dearly but lost her to cancer many years ago. Thats a great experience for kids. I am awaiting an order of Cochin Mollted eggs from Texas, they will be my first eggs in the bator since last year. I'm nervous and excited at the same time. Of course I'm also spinning my thoughts about housing the 14 in the brooder already lol. Hubby has an eye on me and refuses to look in the brooder or keep track of how many I have lol. I guess it's his way of going with the flow

I'll bet if you hatch too many, you can have a market for the chicks! Hatching chicks is addictive. When the babies hatch, you immediately start planning your next hatch!

flower ... though it is more mess to clean up, you could have left the turner in. I've had chicks hatch in turners more times than I can count. As long as it isn't moving, they will be fine 99.9% of the time.

The school hatching projects used to set their eggs on Mondays and kept missing most of the hatching action because the chicks would inevitably hatch over the weekend (in the tuner) ... now I have them set their eggs on Wednesdays. Most of the time they still leave the turner in. Just unplug it.



And yes, hatching is an addiction. I have a cabinet incubator and 7 or 8 of the styrofoam ones.
