I worked on a dary farm growing up we would almost never rasie a bull for longer than a week. most where sold to feed lots and would be used for dog and cat food. U hit any thing in the head hard enough and u can kill it but for a cow your going to need a big hammer. We would shoot them in the head when we had to put one down.![]()
I have a story to share,it is really bothering me and I can't go steal this calf, but my friend called me and her Jersey had the calf and she needed help moving mom and baby to the pen so I went and they really wanted a heiffer well it's a bull, and it will be registered the mom has pedigree if that is how you say it in cow land. Anyway the DH came home and the conversation went something like this, well it's a bull, I'll get the hammer and knock it in the head we don't want to raise a bull. How long will we have to keep it (DW said) at least 6 weeks can't get rid of it until it is eating grain/grass. I know they have taken it away from mom to bottle feed and I said give it to me and her DH said no, now the reason I'm concerned is their dog was pregnant and he said when the pups are born he was going to do away with them and I said give them to me, his dog is a reg. lab and the dad (neighbors dog) was an american bull dog anyway we got a pup from the first litter beautiful big boy. But he did do away with the pups so I don't know if he was trying to get a rise out of me since he know how much I love animals, would someone really do away with a calf and not raise it to sell if it is a reg Jersey? I do chickens not cows so I don't knwo much about them, can you kill a calf with a hammer knocking it in the head, one blow?

sorry do u need to borrow a gun I would be on a hunting party right now for the dogs owner.I lost my Toppy Game rooster today to one of the neighbor's pitbull dogs. A deputy came out and basically told me that all I could do was shoot the dog if it came on my property and file a civil suit. There isn't a leash law out in the county of Wilkes, just inside the city. My DH is working out of town so I'm not going to tell him until he gets home because he will be furious as am I. R.I.P. I used rat shot on it which got her to drop the rooster but it was too late. I will no longer be caring rat shot. I've traded up. No more mrs nice gal. Had enough. He was a great rooster and my favorite and he was worth a good bit. My neighbor sold one like him last year for over $100. I just wish I hadn't let them out today. I started to make them stay in but went against my better judgement. Never a good thing to do.sorry do u need to borrow a gun I would be on a hunting party right now for the dogs owner.
