Is that the same bird at different times or 2 different ones?
And call me crazy, but when I look at that one with the wild feathers, it totally reminds me of the singer for Fishbone, circa 1994(ish). When he still had a mohawk. Which is kinda cool. And that other one reminds me of Andy Warhol. Also, kind of cool.

The top three pictures are a broiler crossed with a turken. The last picture is my broody smooth showgirl that is sitting on eggs. Turken were just named that as a clever marketing ploy. It's just a naked neck chicken bred for hotter climates.
 
So you guys help me think through THIS one:

Sudden death.

Went out earlier to find my oldest hen, Olive- who was just over 2yrs old- dead in the run. She was almost squished-looking up against the bottom board, with her head curled around, almost under her wing (I wish I'd had my camera and the forethought with me at the time). I had gone out maybe two hours before and she was perfectly fine. Perfectly. Pacing at the run door trying to see if I had any food, as always.

Olive facts:

-She was my top hen. Nobody picked on Olive.

-She was a rotund thing. She was my biggest eater and, being top girl, always got away with the most scraps. When the feeder was running low she would *WHAM!!* her big fat chest against it and send food flying. :gig

-She did free range yesterday evening while I raked the sand in the runs but so did everyone else. I never saw her eat anything thy everyone else didn't eat too. Everyone else in the coop is acting totally normal.

I've read things about fatty liver (very possible I guess), sudden cardiac death, etc. All the things I'm finding point to nothing contagious/infectious.. I was distraught at first, not so much over losing her (but she was my favorite girl), but so worried that there is something going on in my flock..

She was still very warm when I found her (like, I swear she had JUST died within a few mins), so not stiff at all.. But when I picked her up everything was floppy except her neck stayed curled. I tried feeling to see if it felt broken but I mean, it wasn't like detached. I wanted to say it felt crook'd at one point but wasn't sure if I might be grasping..

No trauma, no bites. I wonder if maybe the roo went to mount her and she tried to get away and hit the wall just right? (He is NOT very graceful and the girls snub him sometimes)..

Poor Olive- RIP. :(

Well that's what I'm hoping and it's my gut feeling. I guess I just want to hear others agree with that sentiment.. Or see if anyone doesn't. :idunno
