YO GEORGIANS! :)

NICE! see that green stuff in there, that grassy like substance? Nice that you have a pic for posterity sake............LOL it won't be there long!
Isn't that the truth! Sometimes as we are driving the 25 miles to the nearest town, I see fields of grass and I think, "Boy, would my chickens love to be grazing that right now!" That's why I grow fodder. One square a day. I also give them a whole head of cabbage or cauliflower. That lasts about 20 minutes. Today I gave them a whole bag of left over chicken thighs left by the renters. They were cooked in some kind of Italian sauce. Everything was gone in no time. I have no idea where the bones are. Couldn't find a one! Do chickens bury their dead?

I need to check on that fodder......or mudder........... HA

the cabbage thing.........I read this on here somewhere, so did it. That head of cabbage hung there for 3 weeks and I was about to the point of taking it down, then I went out one morning and it was gone down to the nub. last one I hung was gone in less than an hour and the only thing left was the screw eye and the rope it was hanging on

I also read they'd eat watermelon rinds down to the green......nuh uh.....they eat it ALL as in the movie title "gone in 60 seconds" LOL

Jill put some cauliflower in a suet cage one day last week, right before dark. one of the poor leghorn pullets would head to the pop door, then turn and run back and get a bite.....head to the pop door, then turn and run back to get another bite....this went on for several minutes. I thought I was gonna have to go take it out to get her to go to bed! LOL

Pap is right I got a quote for 1600.00 $ I bet it didn't cost him that much and you did a great job .

Hmmm. I saved most if not all of the receipts and such. According to him I spent twice that much. On just the coop. I'm sure he's counting cost of feed, the chicks themselves, etc. He doesn't miss a penny. ever. He might(?) be exaggerating, but I know me and my ability to spend money like a drunken sailor. I can justify any purchase no matter how ridiculously impractical. My spending philosphy is "budget schmudget...". Especially in Home Depot, Ikea or Target. If he hands me his CC I'm like

. That's really bad, huh?

Y'all. I just sold almost an entire BROODER full of chicks! I can hear the sigh of relief from my feed bill.

Sometimes I feel like we live parallel lives. I also sold all the chicks I wanted to sell. Kept 8 to grow out to see what they will be like! Yea for us! Now the brooder is relined with contact paper (Makes cleaning so much easier) and fresh shavings. Waiting for new chicks to hatch this weekend! Then I can do this all over again! After I set these next eggs on the 13th (my son's birthday!) that will be my last hatch for a while. I need to stop and refocus.

I doubt seriously if you have any where close to that much spent. I'm under $1000 on my whole setup, coop, run watering system, decorations.........of course I'm cheap and I buy the purple end warped and twisted wood when I can, but still I wouldn't be near that even if I'd bought first run off the shelf everything

but I'm not counting chickens, or feed, or vitamins, shavings etc etc.....

I've thought about sod, but wonder if it's got any chemicals in it, fertilizer or bug killer. I let my kids out of the run for about an hour the other day. I got nervous that I wouldn't be able to keep them away from a few ant hills I poisoned so we lured them back into the run with watermelon rinds......LOL
New non chemical ant hill destroyer fool proof and easy to use..............GUINEAS

I was discussing this with the wife, and the son in law. they'd have to free range, and there are dogs in the neighborhood, and hawks, and owls...........and the noise. Of course the noise could be a good thing if anyone who ain't sposed to be around comes around.....

OOOH! y'all talking about grass, sod, greens in the run reminded me of something Isaw on Pinterest that I would like to try. Someone built a shallow raised bed, planted grass seed, stapled 1/2"(or maybe 1/4") HC over the top of the frame so that when the grass grew in full enough, the birds could eat it without digging it up from the root. So, supposedly always a constant supply. If anyone would like I can try to find the link, or if you're on Pinterest you could probably find it. I thought it looked like it might be pretty cool.
