YO GEORGIANS! :)

My hatch is winding down.....18 or 21 eggs. That's about 86%. I always wonder why chicks get to the very end and then just don't hatch. So sad.

I know. It is sad. I had a hatch this spring, and after day 21, I candled 3 of the eggs that were floaters and wiggling in the water. I could see the little ones pipping at the inner membrane. But, they never pipped the shell. I felt really bad for them.

Hard to see, but I gave my chickens a pumpkin today. We came home from dinner, and my Swedish flower rooster was sleeping in the pumpkin. I helped him out and put him into the coop.

Today I walked out to the coop and one of the pullets was in my wicker basket. Chicken in a basket. She looked so cute but...... your rooster in a pumpkin really made me smile.

They are so entertaining.

My girls are 8 month old Cream Leg Bars. I assume they should be laying by now. If I just got them and moved them to my house, how long before I can expect them to start back laying with the change in home?

Oooh! Since my race was postponed due to weather, where is the info on the meetup today?
Who is going?
Anyone willing to share gas costs?

I would say up to a month. I got some POL hens and well....I got about 3 eggs out of one and thats it. I have had them now for about 3 weeks. Lol.

Don't forget that most chickens slow down or stop laying eggs altogether when the daylight hours get shorter than 14 hours. Right now we are getting just a tad over 12 hours. A lot of people will put a small light in their coop on a timer that is set to come on around 4am, so that they will have 14 hours of light. Some people opt to let their chickens take a break and rest during this time of year.
