YO GEORGIANS! :)

I had to look up who Scott Weiland was. Sorry. I don't follow singers/actors. But, it's always sad when talented people die. Well, it's always sad when anyone dies! Glad your chickens are ok, Carcar. You don't think a raccoon was poking on them, do you?

I have no idea!! I went back out this morning, I don't see a single thing out of place with the wire. There are a couple branches down next to the coop.. No idea if that's when they fell though. Thought maybe it could have spooked them off the roost? But then why wouldn't the others have been upset too? No idea lol. I guess I'll just be glad nobody is hurt or worse..

So I guess I'll take the Cochin baby out of the bator this morning and see what the older ones think of it. I don't have a real good feeling about it but we'll see. I REALLY hope I don't have to set up a brooder-for-one inside the house.

What a scare! Last night (errr, tonight?) around 10:30 hubby woke me up.. Sounds like a chicken screaming, he said. I listened and sure enough. We raced outside (barefoot and not appropriately dressed- it's COLD!) to find the five MFD that choose to sleep on the corner roost in the run area, strewn about the ground. One I thought was dead (she was stretched out as if sunbathing) but when I stuck my finger through the wire she ran away.

We searched all around for any sign of anything and found nothing.. So I went in to move these girls into the coop. Three of them had bloody combs (tiny bit of blood)!! The one who had been sprawled out started screaming again when I picked her up but quieted quickly so she was the noise culprit. It was the strangest cry, sounded more like an old black crow fussing!

Anyway, got them put away with the others. I have no idea. Best case scenario, one fell off the roost and the others panicked. Worst case, something ELSE made them all panic. Either way, I think they ran into the wire on their way down, which caused the blood.

It was so weird. Hubby was tore up they won't go into the coop with the others. I think I'll remove the roost in the run until they get used to doing so.

So that was my excitement for the evening.

Oh- y'all hear about Scott Weiland dying?

What a waste.

I have 3 speckled sussex that I got out nightly to move into their coop. Everyone else is going in, just these three. So I pick them up and carry them to the doorway, then stuff them in and close the doors.
I keep hoping they will get it sometime soon!

Took the chance and just put baby with the bigger chicks.. So far, so good- nobody seems to want to bully it and it's making happy chick chatter. I did put the lesser heat lamp at the far end of the brooder because that's where the older ones hang out and it seems to want to hang with them.. They'll just have to be warmer than they'd like for now until this one gets some fat/feathers on it. :)

What a waste.

Well have two nankins that won't go into the coop, they prefer to try and roost on the two x four framing up against the wire, every night now for two weeks go out and put them into the coop, Then have one seems that wants to continually sleep in one of the nesting boxes, not go on the roosting bar in the coop.

My Brahmas all do the same thing. I have two perches in the run. Six girls sleep on one and the other four birds sleep on the other. Forget the 4x8 enclosed coop they could go into, lol. Of course, to be fair I don't think they would all have ROOM to roost on the bar in there altogether.

Really wish I could break my Serama from wanting to sleep in the nesting box that is my biggest concern.
