YO GEORGIANS! :)

And, my CCL and silkie have started laying again!
When did they stop? Did they molt? Mine have continued to lay but they will be a year old in March ... If that has anything to do with it.[/QUOTE]
some breeds just stop all together right around thanksgiving and start back end of January - beginning of February. They really don't like short daylight days at all.

That's true, Papa. In this case, she was one of my broody hens. those babies are about a month old now and sold. My silkie, well, she just sees another hen sitting on eggs and she stops laying! She doesn't sit on her own eggs, she just sits NEXT to other broody hens! Worthless chicken as far as laying eggs goes. Cute, though. In the year and a half that I've had her, she's laid only about 2 dozen eggs! LOL

Just did some candling.. ALL 13 of my brown leghorn eggs from GA Mad Hatcher is fertile!! :clap :clap One however did turn to a blood ring early one but all the others are doing great. Wow!!

My Brahma eggs, however, a different story. I may have to go out and clip some bums it looks like. Since the first two I popped in were both fertile I guess I had high hopes for this big batch, but it doesn't look too promising overall. However seeing as that shade of brown is tricky to candle early on, I didn't get rid of any yet.

Also have three MFD eggs on this tray.. All three were fertile there as well but one early quit. Not too shabby on those little guys so far!

I added pea gravel and builders sand to the wet spot in the run it worked like a charm . I plan on covering the top with corrugated roofing in the spring ,maybe that will fix the problem for good .

I got the peck no more at Hollands feed store over here, but they have it at TSC as well.

I did a search through the ordinances section of the Polk County website and there was nothing listed about chickens. Dogs, cats even ferrets, but nothing about chickens.

as for 'commercially' I think it would be more about how often you do it, as in are you set up as a business TO sell them, on a regular basis. Again, unless someone turned you in I have no idea how they'd ever know as long as you don't put up a sign. This is why I haven't put a sign up for eggs.

Something similar, for a few years I flipped campers, buy -- fix up -- sell for profit. When I first started doing it, I would go through the title process of having it changed to my name. I did 3 in just a couple months, and the lady at the tag office told me if I did 5 within any 12 month period, I would be considered a dealer and have to be set up in business.. .not chickens but the point is, this state can come off the wall completely on how they define 'commercial' or 'in business'

I went to Holland today and got the Peck no more stuff. With it being so cold tonight, would it cause her to be cold? She picks feathers out of her all over and cant put it all over her. Should I just put some on her head and wings? Still, that could be cold? What ya think?

I'd go ahead and do it, it won't be cold on her for long if it is at all. Wear rubber gloves and a shirt or jacket that you don't like though, HAHA

it's just so much easier to do this kind of thing after they've gone on the roost. I wore surgeons gloves, I could tuck her under one arm, apply with the other hand, set the bottle down and then spread it around with a finger.

next time you're coming to Hollands, let me know, I'm just a couple miles from there!

I got a news letter from Efowl.com today where there BCM chicks were on sale and would ship in April or May. But we're $12 now $5or $6 but I think 5. I have 3 of them that are 1 1/2 yrs and one lays almost everyday but the other is every other day at the most. I think the min on ordering is 3. But I'm still up in the air about it cause one is such s better layer than the other.
Have any of yall ever ordered from Efowl before?

I have. They have good customer service. One email about eggs broken during shopping and they gave me credit and apologized. I don't care for how many you have to order to get anything close to a decent price, though. I guess if there's a really good sale they might be ok. I have decided not to order from commercial hatcheries anymore though. Too many good sellers here on BYC in the BST forum.

I have a couple hens missing feathers on their butts (one has a big bald spot even) do you think this will work on them? I haven't IDd the culprit yet, though so I guess just use it on everyone?

Thankfully she was sleeping in the nesting box. She was doing that a while and I hoped she would stop but this time I was glad. If they will not let her on roost she goes in there and sleeps. I need to build her a coop of her own. She is tiny even as a bantam cochin. I hope some of her eggs hatch and will be small like her. Also need to sell one of the bantam cochin roosters because 2 is just too much.

I sure will! I am at Holland pretty often, if almost too often. I meant to get a bag of Rye while I was there but of course I forgot! I was looking at property over that way at one time but it turned out to be almost in AL.
