I locked down a dozen eggs at 11:00am this morning on day 19. When my wife picked up the first egg to move it from the turner we heard a peep. Two hours later this little guy was out and about. These are my BO eggs and this is a test hatch in the hova bator. I had a great hatch(24 of 25) in my homemade bator. I don't know why this one was so early but not complaining. I have 28 Cream Legbar eggs arriving Wednesday and have 40 more BO going in today.

Sorry to hear about your hatch rate. Were your water trays full? I filled all 4 in the genesis and it's running at 79% this morning and after reading your post I'll keep a close eye on it. I'll post some pictures of my homemade tonight with a link to the temperature relay. Today is day 20 and I have 6 chicks hatched of the dozen.Congrats. I'd love to see the incubator you made. I have shut my genesis down for except to run for humidity testing. It kept dropping during my first and so far only hatch this year. Out of 7 Blue Copper Maran eggs I have 3 going strong, 2 of those (shrink wrapped) were help outs due to humidity drop from 60-34% with in a 3 hours between when hubby left for work and I came in from work. I purchased CCL eggs from ebay over half were not fertile and the others not much better in in shell quality, nothing came out of it. I'd love to add CCL to my flock this year.
That is a perfect explanation of the start of a wonderful day and being blessed to know it is a gift from our Creator.Feeling particularly blessed this morning. You know one of those days when just how much you have even though simple to others means a lot to you. I have a late start to work today which has afforded me a slow roll to my usually fast paced weekday start. The coops are opened, the yard is alive with chicken noises, my cat meowing for a quick cuddle, my dogs muffled noises of Good Morning Mama, time to sit in the brooder with my baby runners and chicks followed by a nice cup of coffee watching the sun come up over the pasture from my back porch. This room can be fast paced and I tend to ghost more than contribute, but I appreciate everyone here and all they share.
79% is very high humidity for chickens, I do believe one of the ladies who hatches regularly said in the 70's for water fowl, but not for chickens? I've always read that low to mid 60's for chickens is where you want to be?Sorry to hear about your hatch rate. Were your water trays full? Oh yes BBQ again, I will bring potato salad and hotdogs!!! and April 30th is good for me, and thanks for posting how to calibrate your hygrometer, I need to check mine.if memory serves me, we did the first weekend in May last year. May first is Sunday, April 30th would be the day before that. The next weekend is a busy one for us with a birthday in the family, I'm going to suggest April 30th.
Just throwing it out there
I am willing to do barbecue again if everyone wants me to
I have three hygrometers and they are calibrated. I've read 60% for the first 19 days and up to 80% during lockdown and depending where you read there is lots of different data on that subject. I am new to hatching so all I really have to go by is the success rate for my first hatch and the one happening now but I'm building a data sheet of my own. It is not my intent to put up any bad information as I've declared myself a newby and I hope I never sound as if I'm an expert and folks realize I'm just sharing my experience.
