YO GEORGIANS! :)

Speaking of broodies, my white showgirl just hatched a BO, a Black Swedish, and a Pekin and we finally have her back to normal just waiting on the eggs again. The black showgirl has been broody for almost a month now so i finally gave her two duck eggs so she is due to have babies in another week or two. Then three or four days ago my cochin who just recovered from an attack and is now one eye lighter is kicking the black showgirl out of the nesting box and stealing the two duck eggs so it looks like i will be picking up two or three eggs for her to hatch now also.

We have a Rhode Island Red that is broody right now. And although chicken bites don't bother me, she is probably the most aggressive hen we've had. When she attacks you and there is an egg near her breast that she can see... she starts pecking it like it did something to her. She was biting me the whole time I was lifting her up to count eggs. I hope GAM lets this one go to hatch her own eggs. I bet she'll make a great mom.

That's like saying you should let Quantaneeka raise her own children. She will probably make a great mother also.... Customers ask all the time if RIR's make good backyard chickens for their children. I'm just like you may want to wait until the next shipment of Buff Orpingtons.

You don't think she'll be protective of them? I think a chicken that attacks the donkeys would hilarious.
If she doesn't eat them first. I had 6-7 chicks hatch while i was on vacation. I got home two days later and everything was gone but the egg shells. I always assumed something got them. It never occurred to me that the mom rejected the babies and killed them herself. There wasn't a single feather in the nesting box.

New kitty is settling in quite well! He's extremely amorous and curious. I think he's gonna be just fine as long as he doesn't run off.

He's staying on the screened porch for a night or two, depending on how he tolerates it. So far he's quite comfy :)

Any tips on keeping hatching eggs (first time keeping eggs for hatching)

I have an extra turner and I keep my eggs in it on a shelf (not in incubator)
I try to label with the date and type, but don't always do great with that.

I need a pencil in the coop so I don't have to carry 4 containers inside.

RIR, Lav Ams, blue Ams, and BYM. Plus a silkie egg every day or two and sometimes a super blue egg layer egg from my Lav am over exchequer leghorn hens.
Exchequers stopped laying but are starting up again slowly.
