YO GEORGIANS! :)

Got my new pilgrim geese boys home, and just got a call that what I thought was 3 babies in 3 weeks is 8 babies today.

Now in Chattanooga to pick them up.

Also have a silkie and a showgirl I just picked up from Cliff.
45 miles south, almost made it home then drove another 60 miles north.
Thought I was the only crazy one to drive all over for chickens

I'm making muffins tonight but tomorrow may have to tackle the brownies for Robo. If we get that cheesecake recipe I'll be keeping that one handy for me.

The BBQ was great ... too bad that slacker papachaz didn't make his world famous sauce though.

And there were a couple of absolutely yummy looking salads and I didn't get around to tasting any.

The salads were wonderful, you should have eaten the last of the potato salad, I was so stuffed when I left

So are we doing an official BBQ Hatch-along?

yep seems so
that's a bummer. The spinach salad was awesome. That potato salad's pretty good too. I posted the link to the recipe some time late last night. And the brownies, too. Have fun unwrapping all the tiny caramels!

I can't find the post with the link

My girls are just about finished hatching, I'm glad the moms don't mind being together, oh the one hen that didn't want to sit and wait for the eggs hatch has now taken to helping this mom with all her babies. I'd be on the 6 o'clock news if I had all these kids to look after

the top pic has the helper off on the right

So, I was just sitting on the front steps with my new cat. Had my JRT on his leash sniffing the cat beside me and my Dobe was in the yard.

Dobe comes leaping up onto the porch which causes new cat to hiss.. Which starts a massive riff between him and BOTH dogs.. Which causes the cat to LAUNCH into the air. And onto my bottom lip with his rear claws as he didn't quite clear my face.

I bled it forever (which it did of course, profusely) and now of course it's a balloon.

Cat germs... EW

EW is right

Do you know Justin Smithey? He shows Whippets and judges dog shows.

Dunno how I missed this one!

I don't know him in person, but I got in touch with him this spring desperately trying to get sold of a BWA cockerel chick, but we never could get our schedules to link up. (And I promised my boyfriend and myself that we were only raising ONE batch of chicks this year, so after a couple weeks of trying we gave up and are keeping a cockerel from this hatch.) I guess the dog showing probably part of why we couldn't get together! I'll have to look for him in Perry. :)

Disappearing Rooster - Ideas???

We let the flock out the other day early - just after sunrise. About 15 minutes later my daughter heard clucking outside and saw the chickens flying everywhere. When we went out the rooster was nowhere to be seen. We did also have a hen with some feathers missing on her wing.

Question: What could the predator have been? A hawk seems most likely but I wouldn't think a hawk could fly away with a 9lb full grown RHR roo. A coyote would take the rooster - but I expect that they would have gone after a smaller hen and probably killed more than 1 bird. The only other option I can think of is that a hawk attacked one of the hens, the rooster went after the hawk to defend the hen, got killed and we just haven't found the body. Only ?? to that is that we have looked over the woods pretty thoroughly and haven't found him.

Any ideas?
