YO GEORGIANS! :)

Well, the little d'uccle mix bantam is sitting on the eggs for sure, and putting them in the box has definitely kept them all together better!

...but two of the MFD eggs have mysteriously disappeared.

Yolk and shells on the other eggs, but no sign of damage to them otherwise. I hope it's not one of the other hens, but due to the fact that I found some shells OUTSIDE the run I think it may be a rat. I know they get into the run to eat the food at night, but will they really steal eggs? Any thoughts from anyone else?

Every now and then when my hens are sitting on eggs, another hen wants to lay her egg in that nest. The hens squabble and with all the pushing and shoving, an egg may get broken. Once the egg is broken, of course, they all want to eat it! So, maybe the eggs were broken that way and ended up all over the place.

DH must finally be feeling better. We went out for pizza and then he wanted to go get groceries. Ummmm, $150 worth of junk food! Cookies, nuts, ice cream, 2 bacons, etc etc! So, I guess those 12 pounds he lost will quickly be put back on soon! But, I'm sure glad he is feeling better!

That's a definite possibility! I did find two new eggs under her, so I know that the hens are laying on/under her for sure. I think based on everyone's advice I'm going to bring her in soon, so it won't be a concern much longer.

That's great, glad he's feeling better.

All this talk of broody hens has done "flung a craving" on my girls. I got two marans in the same nest box sitting on 12 eggs.

Moved both of them to the little garden tractor and let them keep their eggs. Got 48 eggs in the incubator that will hatch a few days before these girls. Just have to see how it goes.
