Well, the little d'uccle mix bantam is sitting on the eggs for sure, and putting them in the box has definitely kept them all together better!
...but two of the MFD eggs have mysteriously disappeared.Yolk and shells on the other eggs, but no sign of damage to them otherwise. I hope it's not one of the other hens, but due to the fact that I found some shells OUTSIDE the run I think it may be a rat. I know they get into the run to eat the food at night, but will they really steal eggs? Any thoughts from anyone else?![]()
Every now and then when my hens are sitting on eggs, another hen wants to lay her egg in that nest. The hens squabble and with all the pushing and shoving, an egg may get broken. Once the egg is broken, of course, they all want to eat it! So, maybe the eggs were broken that way and ended up all over the place.
