YO GEORGIANS! :)

We lost a runner duck yesterday.....late afternoon. We had two otters show up at the lake for the past few days and originally we thought the otters must have killed the duck, but we found the duck under our back porch....not too far away from the coop. Her neck was torn open and part of her face was missing. I don't think an otter at the lake could have done that kind of damage and the duck somehow managed to climb up the steep embankment to the house to die. So, I don't think the otters got her. My next guess would be the owl we have been hearing around the back by the coop. What do you guys think? Would an owl come out in late afternoon and get the duck? She was the oldest duck. Only other thing would be a hawk. I just don't believe a coyote would come all the way to the porch steps and sit there and eat part of the duck.....they would have snatched and run. Poor baby!

Since you think it happened during daylight hours, I think it was a hawk; owls hunt at night. the neck thing is the way a hawk will do; I've lost two lately this same way. Sorry for your lost..........once hawks start killing your birds, they usually won't stop til they get them all.

If y'all hear of any candling classes coming up soon, do let me know?

I checked the department of agriculture website, but didn't see anything listed yet.

And it's illegal to kill them

Does anyone have a Black Copper Maran rooster that you would want to get ride of (that is not aggressive)? I'd pay $10 if he is a friendly one that we could keep around.

My wife is going to hatch a batch of eggs for her science classes - I have three Maran hens now that I'd like to use to continue to develop the dark egg's.

We just finished the juvenile run. It is behind the coop and they have their own door. They have their own little space inside the coop. I think they like it!

Here are some the the babies!
