Well we think our barred rock is a hen, but her tail feathers a little suspect. She is 5 months and her comb and waddles are small and pink. So fingers crossed it is a hen. Does anyone know about the sexlink? We have two a red and a black. The red as we call her is an Ostrich...has been big from the beginning...dwarfed all the chicks of the same age and no one messes with her. She has tiny pink waddles and comb, and hen tail feathers so we are pretty sure she is a hen, but she is a stinker. Nosy, talks all the time and follows us everywhere. Loves to be held. The black sexlink has a beautiful head and neck of a brownish gold and the rest of her is black but her tail feathers do not look like a hen is that normal? Ok so here you go hens or roosters?

Lisa and Bruce, sorry about your silkie! A friend of mine and I have decided that we should NEVER NEVER EVER say a chicken was one of our favorites! It never ever failed that that 'favorite' would die someway or another within a week of us saying such things! It was just the weirdest thing! So, now I don't have any favorites!

So, don't you want to order some emu hatching eggs now?

I still need to sell some of my old hens!!! They are still beautiful chickens, (but now really laying), so it's hard for me to want to sell them. I just can't make myself eat them. I really should take the older 10 to the auction, but that would include my beautiful frizzled Naked Necks, a gold laced Wyandotte, my two Swedish flowers (except that I know one is still laying well), a Cochin, and a bunch of Easter Eggers. I keep putting it off because I feel like such a traitor to them.....I mean, they are like family! :hit

But, I am buying soooo much feed and not getting the eggs I need! I also have 2 roosters to sell.

I want to throw this offer out to those of you who love to hatch. Lisa is picking up show-quality Silkie hatching eggs tomorrow from one of her breeder friends in Alabama. Our handsome Bearded Blue Silkie came from this breeder's hatching eggs. The hatching eggs will be a mix of either BBS, Blue-Creme, Gray, Paint, Partridge, and/or White, so it's somewhat of a grab bag as you what you will get. That makes the hatch more fun with an added element of surprise!

Anyway, normally this breeder's hatching eggs go for $60 per dozen, but Lisa is getting them for $18 per dozen. She can pick up on dozen more for someone at that price, but you'll have to come to the Villa Rica area to get them sometime this Sunday. Just to be clear, Lisa is getting a dozen for herself, and she will get one dozen for someone else. Sorry for the late notice, but I was just informed of Lisa's plan this afternoon! Let me know if you're interested. Here's a couple of photos I just took of Blue:

(He looks more handsome right after a bath and blow dry.)
Wish I had an incubator. :thby the time they would hatch I'd be ready for them.

I've never tried to hatch myself. Always have brooders but they are all starting to molt now. Building my new pen for the few roosters I kept. My Silkies are close to coming home. The orp babies ars changing a little more everyday. There beautiful :love
