YO GEORGIANS! :)

Does anyone know where I could find a teenage Silkie chick? I need a companion for my other Silkie!
If you're in middle GA, I have a young black pullet. North GA and some others have silkies.

Thank you for that
@brucifer How many lines do you have? Are they all show lines?
For FBCM, two lines. For Chocolate Orpingtons, four lines. They are all show-quality lines; however, just because I use show-quality birds from show-quality lines doesn't mean that all of the the offspring are show quality. First, what I mean by show-quality line is that the birds came from a line that produced birds that successfully competed in shows. For example, the linage of my FBCM lines competed in shows regularly. Second, what I mean by show-quality bird is that the bird would not be DQed if entered in a show in its respective breed category. In the APA Standards of Perfection (SOPs) there are certain traits that are instant disqualifiers for respective breeds. For example, if a FBCM bird has pearl eye color, all bets are off. The bird could be perfect in all other aspects, but it's DQed because pearl eye color a major flaw.

Wondering if you actually show your chickens and if they win.
Not yet. However, that's the goal. I've been working with a couple of breeders who do show and do so successfully. For example, one FBCM hen from one of lines of my stock won at the Ohio National in 2015. That show is to poultry breeders what the Westminster Show is to dog breeders.

Also apparently some chickens have to be dubbed to enter. When that is done doesn't it hurt the chicken. I read that you cut off comb waddles and earlobes. How does that justify the chicken to a standard. I thought that since you have some show lines you might be able to answer some questions.
Dubbing is only required of game breeds, and since we don't raise any game breeds, we fortunately don't have to deal with that practice. Game birds were traditionally used for fighting, and that's why they were dubbed. Doing so made it more difficult for opposing birds to grab each other by the combs, wattles, or earlobes. The APA may make dubbing optional in the future, but as for now, game birds are required to be dubbed when shown. The dubbing process temporarily hurts the birds getting dubbed, but they heal and are fine afterward.
Thank you for that bit of information. I really am very interested in SQ chickens mostly on the Silky, and Bantum Cochens. I was.interested in SQ oegbs but would not want to dubb the birds. I used to show Silky Terrier dogs I had my own line for a long time. It became way too much work and traveling for me while trying to rase kids. I have one terrier left from my line he is almost 9 years old now. Don't think I really want to breed to show chickens but I would like some SQ quality ones here and there.

That's a couple hours north of me. @brucifer is closer. I've been meaning to visit my mom up there though, so if you want the pullet instead of a cockerel and no one up there has one (I can't remember who else had silkies, I thought there were more than just us two), I can bring it up. She's 4 months old, so not exactly a chick and not exactly an adult yet.

We still have those two SQ Silkie boys and can hold them for you if you still want them. We could bring them to the Calhoun show. Just let me know.
