Yogurt as a treat

My girls didn't take to ANY treats until they were 6 weeks. Now, they eat quite a few, including yogurt, but not everything. I have some lettuce in their run right now and they are ignoring it completely.

I had some leftover soup. Sweet potato, rosemary and peas with goats cheese. It wasn't human suitable, so it wen't to the chooks! We have a few dirt divits in the run, so I poured it in that and the girls went WILD over it.
They snack of avocado, and other backyard mush they find. Mine are pretty easy going.

Yogurt

I've just had to treat with antibiotics due to one sick girl, she seems fine now, as do all the others. They had been getting probiotics in their electrolyte water solution but had to take them off that while on antibiotics.

I have been giving them a hard boiled yolk mixed in with yogurt and fish oil then mixed in with some of their crumble, makes it all less mucky and they eat it all right up. They still wipe their beaks after almost ea bite but gobble it right down.

Someone mentioned that chickens cannot digest milk products. I have always looked at yogurt as pre digested with other nutrient factors than 'dairy products', any thoughts on that? I also used to make a chicken mash out of soy, mixed grains & my fresh cow milk that went over well daily, its all they got other than kitchen scraps and mixed grain scratch and of course daily outings.

My one year old chikens and turkeys did not really like it.

But when I mixed it with corn and bran it is a different story...

I thought avocados were a big no no for chickens?

My understanding is that it is the skin and seed that is toxic. I was hesistant at first, too, when my sister through some avo out the "magic feed window" but so far, no problems.
It's in the most minimalist amount, anyway.

My 5 wk chicks didn't like the 'messiness' of it the first time. But then they decided they realyl liked it and run for my hand/fingers when put it in the brooder, yogurt or not. Even my more skittish recent addition will now come peck at my fingers. If I actually have yogurt, watch out, they are there in a flash and grab as much as they can. Someday I may lose a finger! This group will also eat regular chick food out of my hand. I guess they hope I have scratch in there somewhere? For whatever reason, out of my hand seems like a treat to them, even though they have the same thing in the brooder all the time.

So I tried it the yogurt with my younger group and same first reaction, wiping their beak. And it may taste a little sour to them at first? So I left a little on the crate door. It was gone later and then when I stuck my finger in, they came over to investigate. Once they realize they like it, the messiness factor goes out the window. My most stand-offish/skittish chick was the first to come over and peck at my finger. I guess she really likes yogurt!

I wish I had done this with my older girls. They're just not as tame. Live and learn.

Yogurt was my chicks first treat--I'm not sure if they liked it or not. All 6 of them tried it and then took turns "running" through it and then they spent awhile cleaning it off their feet.

We just tried yogurt a couple days ago. I put some out in a stainless steel pet bowl. The 4 week olds were the first to try it. I think at first they were most interested in the shiny bowl. One wee one tried it, wiped her beak then went straight to the waterer for a drink. She was funny. I had to leave for work so I didn't get to see who all liked it and who didn't, but the bowl was empty when I came home. I put it out 2 days in a row and they seem to be eating it up.
