I had an egg hatch and his yolk sac is still attached a bit but it has a piece of eggshell dried to it. I dont know what I should do. Can he absorb the sac still? Will the shell fall as he absorbs or will it hinder him from absorbing. I am new to chicken hatching. This is my first time trying but I had 4 hatch into healthy and happy chicks. He is vocal and is moving around a bit. I dont want to pull the shell off and hurt him. There was a lot of blood when he hatched almost 24 hours ago but no bleeding since.

Just make sure that none of the other chicks can get at that and you should be fine. The chick can then finish absorbing the yolk and when that is complete, it should dry up, fall off. Problem solved.
So, dont try to remove the piece of shell thats attached and dont try to keep it wet? Its in the incubator alone at the moment as the others hatched earlier than this one did. I cleaned all the blood and mess out of the incubator before putting him back in. Also, thank you so much for your reply.

For now I'd keep it in the incubator and would apply some antibiotic ointment to the yolk sack and umbilicus. Sometimes they absorb, and the chick is fine, but there is always the possibility of infection or rupture. Good luck, and the next 24 hours should tell the tale. It's not a lot that needs to be absorbed.

So.... how's your lil squirt?

Honestly, not much has changed. Its standing a bit more and moving around a bit more. Its definitely got a good set of lungs on it. I will be so devastated if it doesnt make it but im not sure it will. I cant get it to eat or drink. It mostly just sleeps. It will walk around a minute and then just lay down and sleep like its weak almost. It chirped and moved around quite a bit last night though. I did get the tiniest bit of egg yolk in it but its almost like it has difficulty swallowing. I think I have cried until my eyes are going to fall out.
