You have got to be kidding me!!

its kind of sad that now a days we have to have a SIGN that tells people what is illegal in order for it to not be disputed as such. you were not given that sandwich. you have not paid for that sandwich. it is not yours.

But aubreynoramarie ...

It's not actually illegal. At least it's not in Florida. It wasn't when we lived in Idaho.

Grocery stores have presented so much that is "ready" food... like sandwiches, subs, hot meals even (our local Publix has a huge section near the deli with hot meals and people eat their finger food like Popcorn chicken *openly* along with the convenient little ranch and blue cheese cups provided for the meal, and an actual soda fountain... now are people suppose to let all the ice melt in their fountain drinks and their food get cold as they shop? No.. they eat it openly... usually right around the deli and take the packages up the front to the cashier.

So... they have done so much to make food available... how are people going to seperate that from the cold sandwiches at the next counter over? Not talking about snatching veggies with your hand from the salad section, or candy... thats just gross. But something pre-packaged... or made for you, served hot?

Yep... a store is nothing like a restaurant where you PAY them to serve you cooked food to eat...

A store is where you buy packaged food to bring home to eat.. if you eat that food and dont pay for it, it IS stealing..
Not rocket science.

Hehe... Red you might want to check my above post. Is it just that we do this in Florida so all the older snowbirds don't fall down dead in the heat and humidity?

Hmmm....

What parts of Florida?

I was thinking a moment ago... when I realized you all must not have the same stores (hehehe) that I ought to take a few pictures next time I'm in Publix.

Now the ones down in Naples, about a half hour south of here... they have seating areas next to the subs. Still people don't pay for the items right there because I suppose the deli workers aren't supposed to be handling cash while handling food?

Maybe they just figure all the old folks in Naples won't make it out the door before someone spots them

It's Safeway's fault.
If they would have installed one of those magical thingys that allows you differentiate between real thieves and forgetful people, none of this would have happened.

Forgetting is a convenient excuse, Safeway expressed they were not interested in monetary payment. There are other forms of payments. I think there are wrappers on the food for that reason. When they want you to eat food in an establishment they call it a restaurant. Did they wash thier hands? just a common sense thing why I never eat anything in a store... except maybe a grape.

Yes, and it sounds like they offered to cover the cost of said sandwich, ie. damages.
