You might be a Southie if you don’t eat smelt.

I was talking to some southies and they were going berserk over my fixing myself some smelt.

Here they are raw.

Below I have sprinkled a little corn meal on them so they don’t stick to the bottom of the deep fryer

I only fry them until they are light brown the. Move them to an air fryer.

Dunk or pour a little apple cider vinegar over them and they are yummy.

I won't lie, I don't like okra. I'm even growing it in the backyard this year because I was hoping I would like it more fresh (because we have gardens in the south) but alas, I'm not quite southern fried enough to like okra unless it's breaded and fried, lol. It's the slime, makes me think of smelt...and that's just gross.
