You might be a “Southie” if...

Well, gee whiz, bless you too....
Thank you, Ralphie, I am blessed to be a New Orleanian all my life.
Home of granulated sugar (discovered by a free man of color who was an engineer ).
Home of Jazz, and the New Orleans sound that became Rock and Roll, Fats Domino , Allen Toussant, Cosmo Matasa (who recorded one of Elvis' first songs), Dr. John and Deacon John, I could go on forever with the musicians. There are so many in the hall of fame.
And the shear number of famous people who quietly choose to make this town their home' The oldest girls school in continuous operation in the United States (will be 300 years in 2027) a school which taught ANY GIRL that wanted to learn, regardless of race, crede, or social standing.
People who help strangers, gladly, with no desire for recognition,
The names of my ancestors on street signs and school houses,
The loan of an ancestor's home and land to Andrew Jackson so that we have remained Americans and not reverted back to being British.
A Great Grandfather who "fixed" people's birth certificates, so that people could Marry who ever they wanted, even though it was against the law.
Andrew Higgins who helped win WWII with his light weight concrete Higgins boats.
I have probably said too much already, but there is so very much I have left out, I feel bad, because it is all so important in shaping our country, all of the good things that people choose to forget. They would rather point out the bad times in the south, forgetting as well the bad things that occurred in the North (I could write and entire book on that information). But then that wouldn't be PC would it.
Perhaps we could start a thread on "you know you are a Northerner if:" I would be happy to add a few things to that thread.
Sadly the exception in all my travels has been New York City!

So much Southie propaganda in one place....

I was in New Orleans, once.

It was hot, muggy, and I did not win ( I was in a Scrabble tournament).

I did not see a lot of sites, but was constantly warned to not go everywhere I wanted after dark.

We have talked of going to Mardi Gras, just to see the cultural highlights. I would close my eyes before the rumored boob flashing started.

Beings you live there do you know of a good cheap low cost bead store?

I want to buy everyone one of my birds their own string of beads, never would I use them the way you Southies do..

It is kind of telling to learn Southies think concrete boats are a good idea. We use things that float to make our boats up here.

Are you aware of the WWII museum?
Are you aware of who Andrew Higgins was and his major contribution to winning WWII?
Do you know what D-day is?
It would behove you to learn your history before you comment again.
Oh and you may want to educate yourself about how the beads are used at Mardi Gras, as well as what Mardi Gras is all about.
Your lack of knowledge is showing, Ralphie.
I am trying to be nice.
Maybe it's time to end this thread, as I think your insults are violating the BYC rules.
Thank you and I hope you educate yourself about American history, especially WWII, it is a fascinating story, fully of adventure, sorrow and heroism. There is a reason those men and women are referred to as "the greatest generation"
It is do to them that you can express your opinion, regardless of how much or how little you know about what you are opining about.
I will be ending this conversation now, Good luck to you Ralphie !

This thread is posted in the joke section for a reason.

Nothing said here is true... it is social thread for people to joke around and tell tall tales.

If you find it offensive, I invite you to leave the thread and post in the serious threads.

With everything that is going wrong in today’s world we need a few spots of levity and humor.

If you want to start a “ you might be a northerner” go ahead as long as it is done in humor.

If you seriously think your state or the people in it are any better than the people in an Other state or your state is superior to the rest of us that’s fine, but please do not publish that propaganda on this site.

Lastly, I assure you my knowledge is not all that lacking. While, I readily admit there are a couple things I don’t know. I sure can’t think of what they are now.

Have a great day on BYC , and You’re welcome to stay here as long as you understand what this thread is about.

Now let’s all go jump in some cement water skis for a fun day on the water!

Calling me a liar isn't considered a joke or funny to me ! That's what I thought this thread was going to be about, until the insults started, and ignorant insults at that. Sorry people are so ignorant of the truth and have no interest in knowing the truth that they refer to it as propaganda. Do none of you know that the Higgins boats, (made out of light weight concrete) were a major part of winning WWII and that they were made here in New Orleans, by a man named Andrew Higgins) Do any of you want to know? or do we just keep "Southie bashing". by the way we are Southerners not "Southies" Sorry that's all some people have is being a bully instead of an educated human being! See now it's your turn, Still think it's all in good fun?
