You might be a red neck if you plant in tires and have made raised garden beds with old solid core doors. Nice thing with using doors is I don't have to kneel to pull weeds and it raises the garden up enough that the chickens that are free ranging in the fenced in front yard tend to stay out. Would you consider it redneck if you intentionally plant cabbage, broccoli, and cauliflower for your birds?

Up here, planting in tires is commonly taught practice through the Master Gardeners Course through our university and practiced all over.

And, uhm, planting for your chickens? You betcha!! Chickens gotta eat, just the same as you! Our chickens get lots of treats like that. I haven't tried using doors yet. I'm afraid the rain might weaken them to the point they'd fail to hold the soil in. But, using exterior doors might work ok.

LCRT, buddy, I did get rude with you. My perception from what you wrote was that you were insinuating I was a bad parent or uncaring father. That is the farthest from the truth. I would give my life for my kids. I'll get rude quick with someone who I think is wronging me. I see now that I was wrong.

I do appologize for being rude to you LCRT. Often times it's very difficult to understand someones meaning behind a written post on the internet. I do appologize LCRT. I was wrong buddy.

Marty, where I come from I can't tell you how many people have planted flowers and tomato plants and who knows what else in old tires. The really big tractor tires are coveted! LOL I know I have eaten my share of those tomatoes.
