Young Barred Rock Bloody And Poopy Vent Issue - Urgent

Oh, they will dust bath at every opportunity if they have some type of ointment on them, been there done that!

Sometimes they can get persnickety when having to be treated. If she's making it difficult, try swaddling her in a towel or thin piece of cloth, capturing her wings. This makes it easier to control them.

That sounds like good advice, but she mostly uses her legs. Still sounds like it should help. It sort of reminds me of the night when I found her all inured. I had her on her back with a cloth loosely over her head when I was trying to work with her prolapse. Doing it with my dad holding her right-side up is much better.

Another thing: Some days ago I found an egg from one of the healthy barred rocks with some blood stains on the shell. I looked that up and my results said that it just happens sometimes, so I didn't pay much mind. I did check one hen because something seemed off, but her vent was fine and her behavior normal. But tonight I noticed that their waterer had a side with a lot of what looked like blood spots seemingly sprayed on it. I worriedly checked on all the chickens who were roosting and they seemed fine, but tomorrow I am going to give each one a physical inspection.
This waterer was outside rather than in a coop, as the intent is to allow both flocks to use it. I hope the blood turns out to be something else, like juice or insect droppings or something, or originates from something that isn't a problem.
Might make a new thread about it.

I think the issue is lice. I hadn't noticed any last inspection, but I found some eggs on one of the barred rocks. I've handled lice before, so no further discussion on this thread about that is needed.

THE PROLAPSE WENT BACK IN! I finally managed to get the tissue back in. Of course, I will still have her isolated for another day or two in case of a relapse, and I'll be giving her a tag/band so I can routinely check for future issues, but I'm so glad it's finally in! The only thing I think I could have done better was clean her- I soaked her and rubbed some urates off with coconut oil but she still had some gunk when it went in. But still I'm so glad that some major progress has been made! If I ever encounter this issue again, I think I could resolve it much quicker due to my experience. Thank you everyone for staying with me, especially Wyorp Rock due to their consistent advice. If any issues arise again I'll post about it, but this thread has probably completed its purpose.

Unfortunately it came back out. I forgot to apply pressure for five minutes after it came in. I will take some pictures today or tomorrow with the help of my dad, in case something is wrong. I'm worried the tissue may be bad.

I should have better pictures tomorrow. The lighting was poor so it's hard to tell what you're looking at in the photos. I took these before pushing the tissue back in again, but it'll probably be the same story tomorrow morning. What worries me about the tissue is two things: it's shriveled appearance and its end. It has a sort of "tail" or long skinny protrusion on the end which I'll try to highlight in a photo tomorrow. While the bulk of the tissue seemed to invert, I don't think the end did due to the small surface area I have to push it. I think it just sort of went inside. To make things worse, I think it might be damaged. It has a slight lump at the end and I'm worried I may have accidentally pulled, ripped, or torn it while treating her at some point. Overall I think the tissue could be dead or injured. I hope she hasn't suffered pointlessly and that she'll get better at retaining the prolapsed tissue. I'll try pushing it in at least once a day now.

It's good that it went back in, even for a short period of time.
That can happen.

When you can, get some clearer photos, it's really hard to tell a lot by what you posted.

Really work on giving her a good soaking in a warm epsom salts bath, after she's been soaking for a little while, gently take a cloth and clean the scabby and crusty areas well.
Slather on your oils/ointments afterwards.

See how it goes. She's not given up, so you hang right in there with her. :hugs
